Dongba culture is a unique form of ancient traditional ethnic and religious culture of Naxi nationality in Lijiang. It is the sum of natural science and social science created and accumulated by Naxi people for thousands of years, and it is an encyclopedia created by Naxi ancestors. Dongba Sutra is the most representative material carrier of Dongba culture of Naxi nationality. It records the rich achievements of Naxi ancestors in nature, history, religion, literature and art for thousands of years with primitive plant materials, traditional handicrafts and hand-made "Dongba paper" as materials and the only existing hieroglyphic Dongba culture as tools.
On August 30th, 2003, Dongba Jing 5 was approved to be included in the UNESCO World Memory Heritage List, which attracted worldwide attention and protection.
