Jiangsu Normal University is a university established by the Jiangsu Provincial People's Government and the Ministry of Education. It is a regional leading model university. In November 2011, the Ministry of Education responded to the Jiangsu Provincial People's Government, agreeing that Xuzhou Normal University should be renamed Jiangsu Normal University. Jiangsu Normal University was formerly the cultural accelerated school for demobilized cadres of the Southern Jiangsu Military Region founded in 1952. In 1959, it merged with Xuzhou Normal College to form Xuzhou Normal University, which was the only undergraduate university in northern Jiangsu at that time. In 1996, the school was renamed Xuzhou Normal University. In November 2011, the school was renamed Jiangsu Normal University.
