Shennong, originally from Huang San, was born in a cave in Lieshan Mountain. It is said that he is an ox head. Because of his special appearance, hard work and courage, he was promoted to tribal leader when he grew up. Because his tribe lives in the hot south, it is called Yandi, and everyone calls him Yandi. Once, when he saw a bird holding a seed, he invented grain agriculture. Because of these outstanding contributions, everyone also called him Shennong.
Our ancients used herbs to treat diseases for generations. But how do people know that various herbs have different medicinal properties? This is also due to our ancestor Shennong, who is not only a great god of agriculture, but also an admirable god of medicine.
In fairy tales, Shennong personally went up the mountain to collect herbs and taste all kinds of herbs. In order to distinguish the medicinal properties, he was poisoned 70 times a day, all of which were dissolved in delicate jade by his liver, lungs and stomach. He also has a magic whip called ochre whip from He Junda in Guangzhou, which is used to whip all kinds of herbs. These herbs are poisonous after being whipped with a whip. Whether it is cold or warm, all kinds of medicinal properties naturally appear.
Shennong treated people according to the medicinal properties of various herbs and relieved their pains. Therefore, the story of Shennong tasting a hundred herbs has become a beautiful and moving story, which has been circulated for thousands of years.
But the unfortunate thing finally happened. Once, Shennong tasted a highly toxic Lysimachia christinae in the mountains, and his intestines were rotten to pieces. The great medical god gave his life to relieve people's suffering. People will naturally not forget his great kindness and be proud of him from generation to generation. Legend has it that there is a cauldron near Taiyuan, Shanxi, and the tripod used by Shennong to taste medicine is still stored here. He also said that in the mountains of Xianyang, you can also see the place where Shennong whipped medicine, which was called Shennong Garden or Yaoshan at that time.
This fairy tale is based on relevant materials in ancient books. "Huai Nan Zi Xiu Wu Xun" says: Shennong tasted a hundred herbs and encountered seventy poisons a day. In the Jin Dynasty, Gambao's "Sou Shen Ji" has a cloud: Shennong whipped a hundred herbs and knew that their nature was flat and poisonous, cold and warm. Ren Liang _ "Xu Yi Lu" has a cloud: Taiyuan has a Shennong tasting medicine tripod. On Xianyang Mountain, there is Shennong Whip Medicine Department. Because of these epic deeds, Shennong became the ancestor of medicine and was loved by the people.
In order to commemorate his kindness and achievements, people regarded him as the God of the King of Medicine, and built the Temple of the King of Medicine, offering sacrifices in four seasons. At the junction of Sichuan, Hubei and Shaanxi in China, it is said that Shennong tasted a hundred herbs, which is called Shennongjia Mountain Area.
