Migration distribution of Geng surname

The Geng family is also an ancient surname that has been scattered in various provinces and cities in China with the changes of the times. There is a story in ancient books that Cao Cao begged General Guan Yunchang to read the story "Yugong Si chased his son and punished his son" in "Spring and Autumn" in order to avoid being killed by Guan Yunchang. During the Han Dynasty, Yu Pi and his son taught in the court; Yu Sheng and Kun Zhong guarded Hengpu Pass in Tailing, Guangdong. In commemoration of his achievements, the name was changed to Dayuling. In the Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties, Yu Cheng, Yu Yi, Yu Dun, Yu Liang, Yu Yi, Yu Bing, Yu Wenjun, and Yu Daolian were from Yanling, Yingchuan, Henan Province. Yu Jianwu and Yu Xin were from Xinye, Nanyang City, Henan Province. Yu Xin said in the poem "Ai Jiangnan": "I am the leader of Yu who inherited the Zhou Dynasty. He established his clan based on his worldly merits. He served as a counselor to the Han Dynasty and became an official by discussing Taoism." This means that the ancestor of the Yu family served as Sikong and assisted Liu in the Han Dynasty. The dynasty played an important role in the founding and governance of the country and participated in high-level economic and state affairs, sitting in court and discussing Taoism. It can be seen that celebrities of the Yu family emerged one after another in ancient times and were active in the political and cultural circles for more than three thousand years. Yu Liang combined military and political power with outstanding achievements. Yu Xin was well-read and had a great collection of essays from the Six Dynasties. Du Fu, the great poet of the Tang Dynasty, praised him as: "Yu Xin's articles have become more mature with time". The Yu clan was known as a loyal, honest and famous family at that time. Today, in Xinye, Henan, there is a shrine for the birth of the governor of Yuhui and a stele of Hu Shu to commemorate his virtues and policies.

The Geng clan people have contributed to social development and have a glorious page in the Chinese nation that will last forever. The old man Yu Yuliang who compiled "Zhi of the Yu Family" wrote in the book that in the early years of the Eastern Jin Dynasty, the famous general Yu was sent to Korea as an envoy. This is the origin of the Yu family who took root in Korea. According to South Korea's census on November 1, 2001, the Yu family ranks 97th among the 286 surnames in the country, and the population of the Yu family in the country is more than 17,000.

According to China's national census, there are about 50,000 Yu family members distributed throughout the country. Many university professors, broadcasters, newspapers, and books and periodicals have mistakenly used the word "Yu" as Geng, Shou, Tang, and Liao. The version of Xinhua Dictionary before 1972 only explained the word "Yu" as "Dayuling", which is at the junction of Guangdong and Jiangxi Provinces. After 1977, annotation "surname" was added.

Today, there are Yu ethnic groups in Guangxi, Hunan, Jiangxi, Gansu, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Yunnan and other places. According to the historical document "Zhi of the Yu Family in Guangdong", the ancestor of the Yu family in Guangdong was Geng Dongyang, who was an official in the Song Dynasty. He came to Guangdong from Nanjing during the Yuanyou period of the Northern Song Dynasty and served as the envoy of Guangnan Road to guide the Guangnan Road. The second generation, Geng Guan, was promoted to the East Road of Guangnan during the Zhenghe period of the Song Dynasty. Seeing the beautiful scenery of Dongguan, he decided to live in Dongguan Tea Garden (today's Chashan Town) and named the place Yujiafang. Around the 25th year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (AD 1392), the eighth generation Sun Yu Dexin and his father moved from Chayuan Yujiafang to Guyong (Chong) to avoid disaster, and then branched to Qishi Village in Benyong.
