Why are there so many collections in the National Palace Museum in Taipei?

With the victory of the People's Liberation War in 1948 just around the corner, the National Government ordered the Palace Museum to select precious cultural relics and transport them to Taiwan Province Province by warships. The National Government began to transport the cultural relics of the Palace Museum, the cultural relics of the preparatory office of the National Central Museum, the rare books of the National Central Library, the archaeological relics of the Institute of History and Linguistics of the Academia Sinica and the archives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to Taiwan Province Province, and established the "Central Cultural Relics Joint Custody Office". For the third time, it was originally planned to carry 2,000 cases (including the Palace Museum 1.700 cases, the Central Museum Preparatory Office 1.50 cases, and the Central Library 1.50 cases), but the warship boarded the ship as soon as it arrived at the family of the Admiralty, so Hangzhou had to find Gui Yongqing, the commander of the navy, and finally ordered to dismantle the desk. In the end, only 1244 boxes could be shipped out (including 972 boxes in the Forbidden City, 28 boxes in the Central Museum Preparatory Office 150, and 28 boxes in the Central Library), while the remaining 728 boxes in the Forbidden City and 28 boxes in the Central Library were forced to stay in Nanjing. Up to now, 2,972 boxes of cultural relics in the Palace Museum have been transported to Taiwan Province, and there are still165,438+065,438+078 boxes in the Nanjing Palace Museum, most of which were transported back to the Forbidden City in Beijing in the 1950s, and more than 2,000 boxes are still temporarily stored in Nanjing.
