Due to the adjustment of Shanghai's district-level administrative region, Luwan District merged with Huangpu District, and the original Luwan District Library was renamed as Mingfu Library of Huangpu District.
The main building is Mingfu Library, which was built in 1930s. The auxiliary building is Lele Bookstore donated by Chinese American Guan Kangcai. At the end of 2004, after renovation and expansion, a unique architectural complex with Mingfu Building as the center and Lele Building and Huixin Building as the background was formed. The library has a profound cultural accumulation, and "Mingfu Building" has witnessed the history of China Science Society and is also the birthplace of China Association for the Promotion of Democracy.
Mingfu Building is equipped with service windows such as the book lending department and the showroom of Mingfu Library, the former site of Chinese Science Society, which can provide readers with services such as "one card" book lending and public bibliography inquiry in Shanghai Central Library.
"Lele Building" has a newspaper lending department, a multimedia network classroom and other service windows, which can provide readers with services such as full-text retrieval of Chinese periodicals, reading of electronic periodicals in Long Yuan, and local area network browsing of "National Cultural Information Resources Sharing Project".
"Huixinlou" has service windows such as literary salon, foreign language reading room, painting and calligraphy reading room, comic book reading room, and ancient books reference room for collecting unique books of Ming and Qing Dynasties. The function of the "Heart Building" is to build a platform for writers, artists, entrepreneurs and celebrities from all walks of life to discuss literature and art. It has held seminars on signing contracts of famous writers in Shanghai, discussions on works, collection of writers' elegant demeanor and other activities, and initially formed a club where cultural celebrities gather.
Over the years, the library has adhered to the tenet of "readers first, service first", constantly explored the service field and formed various characteristic services. After more than ten years of development, family reading activities have developed more than 30,000 family readers. "Friends of Reading Club" has become a link between the library and readers, and has played an active role in cultivating outstanding readers. The published Friends of Reading Music, Cultural Fax, Hot Spots, Information on Women's Work and the library website are the main channels for the library to disseminate information.
