The influence of Cao Xueqin
According to the sporadic records of some literati's notes in Qing Dynasty, A Dream of Red Mansions has become the focus of discussion at that time. The Zhi Zhu Ci circulating in Beijing said: "It's no use reading poems without talking about a dream of red mansions!" Talking about it, sometimes because of the dispute between the two sides, "I am at odds with them, and I punch a few times."
When folk operas and tanci performed A Dream of Red Mansions, the audience "sighed and cried" (Liang Si Ji Jian). Some people even read A Dream of Red Mansions, and they are crazy because they love the characters in the book (see Three Borrowings of Redundant Words from Lu, Notes on Yong Chuang Zhai and other books).
