In other words, Zen Buddhism is one of the eight sects of Buddhism in modern China, namely Buddhism, Buddhism, Buddhism, Buddhism, Buddhism, Buddhism, Buddhism, Buddhism, Buddhism, Buddhism, Buddhism, Buddhism, Buddhism, Buddhism, Buddhism, Buddhism, Buddhism, Buddhism, Buddhism, Buddhism, Buddhism, Buddhism, Buddhism, Buddhism, Buddhism.
Needless to say, the hardships among them, but the key figure, Huineng, the sixth ancestor, is still worth a book.
1. Huangmei was defeated
Huineng, common name Lu, was born in 638, the twelfth year of Zhenguan. To tell the truth, the situation at that time was very good, especially Buddhism. Then two big things happened. In the fifteenth year of Zhenguan (64 1), Princess Wencheng entered Tibet, bringing with her the Buddha statue and Buddhist scriptures, which made Buddhism in the Han Dynasty go deep into Tibet. In the 19th year of Zhenguan (645), Xuanzang returned from India to seek dharma, and the court organized a large-scale translation field for him to preach. It can be seen that Tang Taizong's admiration for Buddhism has made Buddhism's status increase day by day.
When Huineng was young, her family was poor, she didn't study, her father died young, and she lived by selling firewood. One day I heard someone read the Diamond Sutra and realized it! Don't ask me how I realized it. I don't know. Anyway, I realized it. I inquired about the whereabouts of Master Hong Ren, the fifth ancestor of Zen Buddhism, and went straight to Huangmei Dongshan Temple.
At first, it didn't go well, so I was sent to the shack to stamp my feet, that is, stomping my feet on the pedal for eight months. One day, Hong Ren will choose a successor on condition that each person writes a poem to express his understanding of the Buddha. Disciple Shen Xiu did his duty: "As a bodhi tree, my heart is like a mirror. Always wipe it clean so that there is no dust. " Probably refers to inner cleanliness, relying on diligent rubbing. Written on the wall, everyone said yes. Who wants Huineng to say, "Good is good, but not thorough enough." So, he also wrote a song: "Bodhi has no trees, and the mirror can't stand." Nothing, where is the dust? " It probably means that there is no desire in my heart, and where is the dust on my body? Everyone was surprised, but they were afraid to say anything.
Master Hong Ren saw this poem [j] and patted Huineng on the head three times. Huineng knew what Master meant and came to the abbot's room at midnight in the dark. Hong Ren took off his cassock to cover the candle, secretly taught Huineng Zen and handed him the mantle. Yes, so is the Monkey King!
Step 2 retreat south
If you think you can successfully counterattack at this time, you are a little too hasty. Considering that other disciples attached great importance to this position, Hongren, the fifth ancestor, was afraid of causing disputes and worried about Huineng's safety. He was sent to Jiujiang Ferry that night and told him to go south overnight.
Huineng was 24 years old that year and returned to his hometown, where he stayed honestly for five years. These five years have not been peaceful. As the five ancestors said, other disciples chased all the way south. One of them, Huiming, found Huineng. This Huiming has a long history. He used to be a soldier and a general.
To Huiming's surprise, Huineng gave him the mantle under coercion and inducement. Huiming is a little at a loss. On second thought, I have come a long way, and I can't send it away in a cloak, but I have to be granted by the Buddha.
Hui Neng also got over it and agreed without saying anything, so Huiming was completely confused. After hearing Huineng's words, Huiming fell into deep remorse and even worshipped Huineng as a teacher.
It is said that what moved him was this sentence: "I don't consider good and evil." When it is correct, this is the true face of the table. " That is to say, only by putting aside the binary opposition between good and evil and starting from the inner pure self can we understand the true meaning.
3. safflower stage
Five years later, on the eighth day of the first month in the second year of Ganfeng (667), Huineng came to Huozhuoji, Guangzhou, and saw a banner hanging in front of the temple and two monks arguing. One said, "The wind is moving." The other said, "The fan is moving." The two men were red-faced and would not give in to each other. Huineng said: "It's not the wind, it's not the agitation, it's the heart of the benevolent!" When they heard this, they were surprised. Somehow, they felt that this man's B case was very high and quickly reported it to Master Yinzong. Master Yinzong invited Huineng to the temple and asked, "I heard that Master Hong Ren's Zen spread to the south. Are you his successor? " Huineng said, "Exactly." Then they took out the cassock and the bowl. When everyone saw it, they prayed and asked Huineng to say Zen. In this way, Huineng officially debuted.
Since then, Master Huineng has been lecturing in Caoxi Baolin Temple for more than 30 years. Tang Zhongzong sent an envoy to Caoxi to call him back to Beijing, but he didn't go either. Later, the court ordered that Master Huineng's home in NSW be converted into Guo 'en Temple. Master Huineng died here at the age of 76.
As for his Zen Buddhism, it was recorded as an altar sutra, which is the only Buddhist sutra created by China people.
In order to be more vivid, use an inappropriate metaphor:
Buddhism says: there is no self, no one, no sentient beings and no immortality.
It is like a window, which makes you look at everything from a new angle, more like a world view.
Zen says: no meditation, no chanting, no precepts. You point directly at people's hearts and regard nature as Buddha.
It seems to be a road, with one more choice without changing the direction, which is more like methodology.
This is probably like the Diamond Sutra: whatever the Tathagata says is not desirable and cannot be said.
