Ceng Zi, also known as Zeng Shen, was born in Lu in the Spring and Autumn Period and was a disciple of Confucius. Ceng Zi was deeply taught by Confucius. He was not only knowledgeable, but also very honest. He never cheated others, even for his own children.
On one occasion, Ceng Zi's wife wanted to go to the street, and her son was crying to go with her. Her wife coaxed him into saying, "Wait for me at home, and I'll kill pig stew for you when I come back." Children believe it.
when his wife came back, she saw Ceng Zi sharpening his knife and preparing to kill the pig, and quickly stopped and said; "What's the matter with you? Do you really want to kill pigs for him? I used to coax him. " Ceng Zi said seriously, "How can you cheat a child? Our words and deeds have an impact on children. If we don't count, children will not listen to us in the future. " He did kill the pig. Ceng Zi's words and deeds set an example for future generations.
A promise is as good as a promise
At the end of the Qin Dynasty, there was a man named Ji Bu in the State of Chu. He was a man of honest and frank, and he was very trustworthy. As long as he promised, he would try his best to do it. Therefore, he was praised by many people and everyone respected him.
He used to be a general in Xiang Yu's army, and he led his troops to defeat Liu Bang many times. So when Liu Bang established the Han Dynasty and became emperor, he ordered the capture of Ji Bu, and announced that anyone who caught Ji Bu was like a thousand taels of gold, and those who hid him were punished by the three tribes of extermination. However, Ji Bu is honest and often acts heroically, so everyone wants to protect him. At first, Ji Bu hid in his friend's home. After a while, the news of catching him became tighter. His friend shaved off his hair, disguised himself as a slave, and sold it to Zhujiajian in Lu as a laborer with dozens of servants.
The master of Zhujiajian appreciated Ji Bu very much, so he made a special trip to Luoyang to ask Liu Bang's good friend Ruyin Hou Tenggong to intercede with Liu Bang, hoping to revoke the wanted order to kill Ji Bu. Later, Liu Bang really pardoned Ji Bu and gave him an official position. There was a fellow countryman named Cao Qiusheng in Ji Bu. He always liked to associate with powerful friends, so he asked someone to write a letter of introduction to Ji Bu, hoping to meet and make friends with Ji Bu. However, as soon as Ji Bu saw him, he was disgusted and didn't want to pay any attention to Cao Qiusheng at all. However, facing Ji Bu's annoying look, he continued as if nothing had happened: "You also know that we are all Chu people. People often say that' it is better to get a promise than a hundred gold' is the result of my preaching for you everywhere, but why do you always refuse to see me?" Ji Bu was very happy after hearing what Cao Qiusheng said, and immediately changed his attitude and treated him as a guest of honor.
