Filial piety is generally manifested as filial piety and filial piety. Filial piety refers to affirming parents' authority in order to repay their parents' upbringing, so as to obey their instructions and orders and act according to their wishes.
Ancient records
The Confucian Book of Filial Piety makes it very clear at the beginning: "Parents dare not damage their bodies and skins, so filial piety begins;" Standing on the street, making a name for yourself in later generations to show your parents, is also the end of filial piety. Filial piety begins with relatives, ends with kings, and ends with bodies. "This shows that the concept of filial piety in China culture is not only filial piety to parents, but also the beginning. In The Analects of Confucius, Xia Zi asked Confucius what filial piety was. Confucius said: It is the hardest thing for the younger generation to keep respectful and cheerful. Confucius said: color is difficult). The Analects of Confucius has the word "filial piety" in chapter 14. Four chapters of politics
Meng Wenxiao. Confucius said: No violation. Fan Chi told me, "Sun Meng asked me about filial piety, and I said," There is no violation. Fan Chi said: What is it? Confucius said: the things in life are courtesy; When you die, you should be buried with ceremony and sacrificed with ceremony (Meng asked Confucius what filial piety was. Confucius said: You can't violate it. Later, when Fan Chi was driving for Confucius, Confucius told him about it and said, "Sun Meng asked me what filial piety is. I answered him: don't violate it. Fan Chi asked: What does this mean? Confucius said: when parents are alive, they should serve according to etiquette; When they die, they will be buried and sacrificed according to the ceremony.
According to Confucius' own interpretation, "non-violation" in this chapter should mean non-violation of etiquette.
As for why Confucius used two paragraphs to explain it, it did not violate it. Some scholars believe that Meng Nuoxian, Meng's father, is polite, so Confucius can be considered filial as long as he does not violate his father's will. But the general father's words and deeds are not consistent with etiquette. At this time, children should not be filial to their fathers, but should be filial to their courtesy.
Meng asked about filial piety. Confucius said: Parents only care about their own illness (Meng asked Confucius what filial piety is. Confucius said: Let parents worry only about their children's illness.
There are three interpretations of this chapter as follows: 1. Parents are only worried about their children's illness, so they must try their best to do everything well; 2. Parents only worry about their children's illness, and children should take care of themselves; Children should only worry about their parents' illness, and don't worry too much about others, otherwise they will make their parents uneasy.
The implication of this chapter is that diseases are beyond people's control, and people have strong control in other aspects, so children must try their best to behave well in other aspects, so that parents will not worry about their children because of things other than diseases.
From this perspective, the real meaning of Confucius' chapter may be understood as: children should try their best to do whatever they can do well, so that parents will not be disturbed by their children.
Ziyou asks filial piety. Confucius said: filial piety today means that it can be raised. As for dogs and horses, both can be kept; If disrespectful, why not? Ziyou asks Confucius what filial piety is. Confucius said: Today's filial piety is to be able to support and take care of parents. But the dogs and horses at home are also kept and taken care of! If you have less respect in your heart, how can you tell the difference between the two?
"As for dogs and horses, both can be kept" has two interpretations: 1. Dogs and horses are also raised by people; 2. Dogs and horses can also serve people; But according to the second explanation, it seems that the word "you" is not needed.
Ask xiaoxia. Confucius said: color is difficult. If something happens, the disciple will handle it; There is wine and food, sir; I used to feel filial piety (ask Confucius what filial piety is in summer). Confucius said: It is the hardest thing for the younger generation to keep respectful and cheerful. Something, young people do; When there is abundant food, it is eaten by elders; Can this be considered filial piety?
There are also two solutions to the color difficulty in this chapter: 1. What the younger generation looks like (see the picture above for details); 2. The appearance of elders: It means that you can know what your parents think before their appearance has changed.
The Analects of Confucius has the word "filial piety" in chapter 14. Among them, Confucius said that there are six chapters (5+ 1, one chapter is repeated) related to the definition of filial piety, namely
Learning to be excellent is to be an official. Confucius said: the father is there, watching his ambition; Father didn't. Observe his actions. Three years without changing your father's ways can be described as filial piety. (The "ambition" of "father is observing his ambition" means "ambition" in ancient times, including thoughts and attitudes. We have all been sons, and we all have this experience: Father and teacher heard the lesson in front of them and kept saying "yes", but turned their backs and made faces at classmates and friends to show that they would not listen. Therefore, the sentence "Father is reading the will" means that parents should be consistent in words and deeds. That is, when parents are not in front of them, behind their backs, and even when their parents die, they should be consistent in words and deeds, sincere and sincere, and very frank. If they say no, they won't accept it. If you are a good person, you must do it to the end. After the death of parents, you can't change the way of being a father for three years. Three years have passed, and your feelings have not faded, and your words and deeds are consistent. This is a dutiful son. Chapter 6(5) belongs to "two ends and four corners" heuristic teaching.
To sum up the meaning of chapter 6(5) is: when parents are alive, get along with them respectfully; Keep a happy expression; Behavior should be in harmony with righteousness and propriety; In addition, we must try our best to do everything well and try our best to reduce parents' worries about themselves; After the death of parents, the funeral ceremony should also be combined with ceremony; And we should always remember them and imitate their words and deeds, so that we can all do it. This is filial piety.

The sentence "Zhu Dexiao comes first" comes from the article "Night Talk Around the Furnace" in Qing Dynasty. Because it is the fundamental truth, the fundamental human relations, and the fundamental knowledge of * * *, a thousand words of "night talk around the stove" can't compare with the reputation of "all virtues and filial piety come first". Why put filial piety before all virtues?
"Han Shi Zhuan" Volume 9: "The tree wants to be quiet but the wind will not stop, and the son wants to raise it without waiting."
Confucius said to his disciples, "You should take a warning. This is enough to make you understand the truth! " "So, thirteen people left Confucius and went home to provide for the aged.
In fact, it is precisely because this sentence is "fundamental" that it is universally applicable. All officials are inferior, and only those who are highly educated should put filial piety first. Why is this? Because there is no filial piety, no foundation, no human inheritance. Filial piety to children and kindness to parents. The adoption of a child by parents is called "adoption", and the adoptive parents of the child are also called "adoption". The former raises adults, while the latter supports them to die. This is called justice (justice comes from Twenty-five Years of Zuo Gong). "Fu Li, the classics of heaven, the meaning of the earth, and the trip of the people." )。 What is nature? When people plant a fruit tree, if it gets rain and sunshine from the sky and underground, it will blossom and bear fruit. Even the "ginseng fruit tree" is an expensive tree species, which will bloom every 30,000 years and bear fruit every 30,000 years. There is no heaven and earth truth that no one nourishes and does not repay. This is the law of nature.
Let's look at the writing of filial piety. The word "Zi" is below and "Lao" is above, so Shuowen says "filial piety" as: be kind to parents. Always above, always below. This is the order of generations, etiquette. It can also be seen as a son inheriting his father's business and a son inheriting his father's business. This is a pictographic and intuitive filial piety.
Therefore, life is between heaven and earth. The Analects records the words of the former teacher: stand at thirty. Why is thirty called "Li"? "Li" means standing between heaven and earth, being with people and humanity. Standing by virtue is definitely not based on "financial gain." When you are 30 years old, you are not only a child, but also a parent. Know the way of the Son of Man and the way of your parents. About why people come? How did it come from? Where will it go? As what? These basic knowledge should be understood. This kind of recognition is not necessarily a beautiful picture woven with written articles and literary talents. For example, the elderly in rural areas can't read, but they do good deeds and accumulate virtue, and beggar their neighbors. This knowledge comes not from books or wonderful articles, but from decades of human experience. Because "the Tao is not far from people" (the golden mean), the fundamental truth is the simplest and most feasible. That is, in the Analects of Confucius, "those who have spare capacity will learn literature." "Text" comes after "line", which is the fundamental order.
Moreover, if a person has no "spare capacity" (spare capacity is the spare capacity for doing things and filial piety), and virtue is not cultivated, it cannot be called "standing". Pretending to be literary (literary talent includes all literary skills such as writing kung fu), his heart must be expressed in the article. The so-called "words are like people" and "words are like people". In short, all actions are expressions of mind. Because all actions are caused by the heart, so put them into action.
