Which country did cotton first come from?

China is one of the origins of cotton and has a long planting history. In the past, people thought that there was no native cotton in China. Actually, it is not. According to some experts' investigation, wild cotton is distributed in southern Yunnan and Guizhou. Cultivated cotton originated from wild cotton. Moreover, in some areas of Sichuan province, a relatively primitive yellow fiber cotton has been preserved and cultivated so far. This kind of primitive cotton was also planted in Qinba Mountain area of southern Shaanxi in 1950s and 1960s. People call it "three flowers", with low yield, short plants and yellow fibers. The history of cotton cultivation in China can be traced back to the Yu Xia period of prehistoric primitive society. In ancient China, cotton was called "weaving shell" (Shangshu) and "white velvet" (Hanshu). In Shangshu Gong Yu Yangzhou, it is recorded that the ancient Yangzhou is located in the southeast of China and the Huaihe River. The so-called "weaving shells" is the five-color "patchwork" popular in the south. This record shows that our people planted and used cotton 4000 years ago. This is also recorded in the Book of the Later Han Dynasty. Scientists have found a large number of spinning wheels in different shapes at the Neolithic site in Binchuan, Yunnan, and the number is huge. All these indicate that Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau in China is also one of the origins of cotton in the world.
