Wang Niansun was born in a scholar-bureaucrat family. Grandfather Wang Zenglu gave lectures all his life, and his father Wang Anguo was a scholar in Yongzheng period. He worships official ministers and is good at studying Confucian classics. Wang Niansun was taught by the imperial court since childhood. At the age of eight, he could become a writer. At the age of ten, he studied under Bi Qunjing and was known as a "child prodigy". In the 21st year of Qianlong, Dai Zhen, a famous scholar, came to Beijing to teach in Wang Fu. Both Wang Niansun and Duan Yucai have profound attainments in literature, phonology and exegetics. Wang Niansun is not only a diligent and honest official, but also a master who has made great contributions to the academic field and initiated a generation of study style. He worked hard all his life and wrote a lot. Reading Magazine was edited and published from the 17th year of Jiaqing (A.D. 18 12) to the 11th year of Daoguang (A.D. 183 1 year) before Wang Niansun died. The rest were compiled by his son Wang and published in the twelfth year of Daoguang.
