I learned medicine from Quanzhou famous doctor Cai () and benefited a lot. He was famous for curing a hemiplegic patient in the capital, and later he often treated diseases during his tenure. After returning to Li, he gave lectures at Jingshan Caotang in Songshan. He has written a lot in his life, and his medical thoughts are all based on Neijing, Treatise on Febrile Diseases and Synopsis of the Golden Chamber, which consists of Synopsis of the Golden Chamber, Encyclopedia of Synopsis of the Golden Chamber, Synopsis of Treatise on Febrile Diseases, Series Explanations of Treatise on Febrile Diseases, Shennong's Classic of Materia Medica, etc. In Zhongjing's research, he opposed the brief discussion of mistakes. He is rigorous in his scholarship, and strives to popularize medicine with the principles of "simplifying the complex, returning to the blog" and "simplifying the complex". His works, such as San Zi Jing and Yi Zhen Yi, are widely circulated. Other works include Notes on the Festival of Vitality and Spirit, Essentials of Gynecology, Shennong's Classic of Materia Medica, Encyclopedia of the Times and Notes on Ten Drugs. Later generations published his medical books as The Complete Works of Nanyatang Medical Books or Sixteen Medical Books in Chen Xiuyuan. There are twenty-one, sixty, seventy-two Chen Xiuyuan medical books and so on. His profound thought of respecting the classics and worshipping the ancient times severely criticized Zhang Jingyue, Li Shizhen and other famous doctors, and his remarks were also criticized by doctors.
