Satire and comic erotic works are rare in Ming and Qing novels, but this book belongs to this kind of works. It takes the opportunity of concubinage and refusal between a jealous woman and her husband to evolve a story of quarrelling, fighting, intrigue and retribution between heaven and earth. The novel describes Du Shi, a vicious, arrogant, narrow-minded and jealous woman, and her husband who is timid, trembling and timid in front of her. These two people form a pair of sharp contrast and contradiction, thus forming two characteristics of the work in theme and artistic conception: satire and lashing against anti-traditional behavior, comedy and compactness of plot conflict. The theme of the book is to reflect women's dissatisfaction with male indulgence (an excuse to carry on the family line). The vivid and exaggerated personality conflicts and collisions of the characters have formed some ironic comedy scenes.
