Ciyun Temple was founded in the Tang Dynasty, formerly known as Kannonji. 1927, Master Ciyun rebuilt it and expanded it into Shifang Temple, becoming the only Buddhist temple in China with "Shifang Jungle". The legal system of the temple is Linjizong. The famous founder and people who made great contributions to the development of temples were Yunyan masters in Qianlong period of Qing Dynasty.

The temple is by the Yangtze River, and the main hall is built by the mountain. The temple architecture is in harmony with the surrounding gardens and mountains and rivers, which makes the temple winding and secluded, and the garden environment more beautiful, making it a major tourist attraction in Chongqing. The existing Buddhist buildings in the temple include eighteen pavilions, main hall, Pu Xian Hall, Liushu Hall, Guanyin Hall, Wei Tuo Hall, Thousand-handed Guanyin Hall, ancient Buddha Cave, etc. Most of them were built in the Tang Dynasty and were last renovated in 1936.

Entering the temple gate along the stone steps, there is a magnificent hall of great heroes, resplendent and magnificent, and there are pavilions and pavilions such as Wangjiang Pavilion. Climb up the hill along the quiet yard. At the top of the mountain is a big garden, which has a Buddhist scripture building, and there is a Bade Palace pool in the garden. Especially the 18th Pavilion, whose architectural style is the fusion of modern European architectural art and ancient China architectural art, makes the temple unique in architecture.

The Buddha statues in Ciyun Temple are beautifully carved and there are many Buddhist relics. There are 3 jade buddhas in the temple, among which siddhattha gotama is1.87m high and weighs1.500kg, making it one of the largest jade buddhas in China. In front of the Jade Buddha, there are four diamond-shaped buildings with the full text of the Diamond Sutra, which are tied and pasted with five-color gold thread. There are also many gold embroidered Buddha statues, thousands of Buddha clothes, King Kong Mansions, ancient finger paintings, finger characters and a full set of Buddha pictures published in Japan in the early years, which are very precious. There are 130 Buddhist scriptures in the temple, and the most precious versions are Zhaisha Tibetan and Baga Tibetan in the Song Dynasty, which are regarded as the treasures of the town temple. There is also a bodhi tree transplanted from India in the early years of the Republic of China, which died in the ten-year Cultural Revolution. Unexpectedly, 10 years later, 1982, when the government implemented the religious policy, the bodhi tree miraculously revived, which surprised pilgrims and monks. There is a sculpture lotus in the pool under the tree, on which stands the statue of Prince Sakyamuni, surrounded by nine dragons, and the words "Prince Baths in Kowloon" are written (at present, the statue of Prince Sakyamuni Buddha is still there, and the rest of Kowloon is temporarily demolished).
