Sanxingdui culture has aroused the interest and research of archaeologists in China and even the world and ancient writers in China since it was discovered. From 1933 to 1986, although the content of Sanxingdui culture has been enriched and presented to us more and more completely, there has been no major breakthrough and progress in the research of Sanxingdui culture. Today, we are still in the stage of speculation about the relationship between Sanxingdui culture and Xia and Shang culture in the Central Plains. Whether Sanxingdui culture is related to Erlitou culture is still inconclusive.

Sanxingdui culture is a local culture located in the western part of China, which is considered as the source of ancient Shu culture. It not only has a long history, covers a wide range of fields and has brilliant cultural achievements, but most importantly, Sanxingdui culture is an indigenous culture different from that of the Central Plains. So many people think that Sanxingdui culture is a foreign culture, even a civilization created by aliens when they visit the earth.

It is precisely the particularity and uniqueness of Sanxingdui culture. In addition, Sanxingdui culture has a long history and has not been well preserved and passed down to today, which makes it very difficult to study Sanxingdui culture. Since 1933, the research on Sanxingdui culture has never stopped. However, the research results did not draw very strong evidence and conclusions. Moreover, the statues, statues, masks and other obscure civilization forms of Sanxingdui culture have not left any written descriptions and records, and there is no existing ancient Shu civilization for reference, which makes it difficult for many archaeologists who have studied the Central Plains culture to study Sanxingdui culture with what they have learned.

In fact, many people have a misunderstanding. Archaeologists know everything. But in fact, archaeologists are more detailed than any other discipline. Some archaeologists may study a branch of early human civilization. Some archaeologists may study the civilization during the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period. Some archaeologists may study the civilization of the Tang Dynasty. But no matter which branch, few archaeologists can penetrate the whole picture of China culture. After all, China has a history of 5,000 years of civilization and millions of years of human development, and such a huge cultural system is beyond the grasp of any individual. This is neither realistic nor possible.

The complexity and diversity of Sanxingdui culture and the ethnic diversity in central China in ancient history make Sanxingdui culture look very obscure. So far, Sanxingdui culture has not clarified its overall structure and system. Some historical periods are still in the blank stage. Cultural fault makes the research work more difficult.
