Many lacquerwares were unearthed from Shuihudi in the west of Yunmengchengguan in Hubei Province, with exquisite patterns, smooth lines and vivid images. One of the lacquer bowls is the only existing Qin Dynasty lacquer painting.

The vermilion lacquer bowl unearthed at Hemudu, Yuyao, Zhejiang, has a history of 7,000 years; the lacquer harp discovered at Changtaiguan, Xinyang, Henan, includes painted lacquer paintings with images of hunting dances, monsters, dragons and snakes, etc. With a history of more than two thousand years; the lacquer paintings on the Han Dynasty lacquer coffins unearthed in Mawangdui, Changsha, Hunan are also very famous.
