A: master lianchi (1535- 16 15), a monk in the Ming Dynasty, was the eighth founder of China Pure Land Sect. The common surname is Shen, the famous book is Hong, the word is Fohui, and the nickname is Lianchi. Because he has lived in Yun Qi Temple for a long time, he is also known as Master Yun Qi. They, together with Bai Zizhen, Hanshan Deqing and Ou Yi Xuzhi, are called the four great monks in Ming Dynasty. Combined with two cases of Zen Sutra, ten covenants were made, which were regarded as commandments by all monks. During the Yongzheng period of the Qing Dynasty, he was named "Miao Jing Zhen Xiu Zen Master".
Master Renhe Trainer in Hangzhou was born in an aristocratic family in the 14th year of Jiajing in Ming Dynasty (1535). My father's name is Dejian, whose real name is Mr. Mingzhai, and my mother's name is Zhou. A beginner of Confucianism, he made up for all the students at the age of seventeen and is famous for his erudition and filial piety in the village. When I became a monk, there was an old woman next door, and there were thousands of Buddhist names in daily classes. When the master asked her why, the old woman replied, "My late husband died of illness when he died. He lived very comfortably, so he knew that chanting Buddha was incredible." The master was deeply rooted, deeply moved by the words, believed in the incredible Buddhism and sent his heart to the pure land. Zeng Shu wrote the words "life and death" on his desk as a policy of self-warning. Later, because my parents died one after another, I was extremely sad and had a deeper understanding of the impermanence of life and death in Buddhism. So he bid farewell to his wife Tang Shi and decided to become a monk. He said: "love is not long, life and death are irreplaceable, I am leaving." You are planning for yourself! " He also made seven tick marks (indicating fame and fortune in the world, children's affair, etc.). ), all cancelled one by one, in order to clarify the ambition of becoming a monk, which is divided into seven paragraphs, hence the name). In the forty-five years of Jiajing in Ming Dynasty (AD 1566), he became a monk in Wumen Temple in Xishan, and was warned by Santan in Zhaoqing Temple. After that, he traveled with his staff and visited the virtuous everywhere. Traveling to Wutai in the north, I feel manjusri is radiant. When I visited the Zen master Xiaoyan Debao in Beijing, I also realized something. On my way back to Dongchang, I suddenly heard drums beating from the bridge building and said, "Twenty years ago, something was suspicious. What's so strange about having an affair three thousand miles away? Burning incense and throwing halberds like a dream, the magic Buddha fights for right and wrong. "
In the fifth year of Qin Long (A.D. 157 1), he entered Yun Qi Mountain in Hangzhou, where he saw beautiful scenery and was easy to live and practice. He lived in a hut on the mountain and often went to the village at the foot of the mountain to beg for food to make a living. Tigers haunt the mountains from time to time, and the villagers suffer greatly. The master was kind enough to give food to Buddhism, and soon the tiger became extinct. At that time, when there was a drought, the villagers asked the master to pray for rain to solve the disaster. The master struck the wooden fish with his hand and led the people to recite Buddha around the ridge. For a time, wherever he went, it rained heavily. The people in the village are very happy and enthusiastic, and they have great faith in Buddhism. They spontaneously organized forces to build a Buddhist temple for the master. Since then, I have been a teacher in the Dojo. I am a great teacher. The disciples of the Buddha came on hearing the wind, gathered in the sea, cleaned up and gradually became a big jungle.
After the master presided over the Dojo, he paid attention to the practice of true cultivation, taking precepts as the cornerstone and pure land as the conversion. Zen and pure land pay equal attention to each other, and Hong religion is enduring all the year round. At this time, the abstinence shrines in the north and south have been abandoned for a long time. In order to make the precepts endless, the preceptees bring their own clothes and receive the precepts in front of the Buddha to prove it. He also wrote some examples about the legal system and norms, such as Brief Introduction to Misha, Enlightened by precepts, Invisible Commandments of Bodhisattva, etc., so that believers can learn the commandments. Advocating the prohibition of killing and releasing, setting up release ponds and release places in temples, the book "Prohibition of killing and releasing" is popular all over the world. At the same time, the texts of Buddhist rituals such as yoga flame mouth, land and water dharma meeting and chanting at two in the morning were revised. These rules and regulations have been used to this day.
In life, master lianchi is simple and light, always covering himself with linen and plain clothes, and using a piece of linen for decades, doing his own work. There are thirty-two articles about self-policing. Treat people with compassion, dignity without losing gentleness, make unremitting efforts for the Dojo and the public, and treat all sentient beings equally with great compassion.
This master devoted his life to popularizing the Pure Land Method, presided over the Yun Qi Dojo for more than 40 years, and set an example to teach countless Buddhists to return to the Pure Land. Half a year before his death, he predicted that at the end of June in the 43rd year of Ming Shenzong Wanli (16 15), he would go into the city to say goodbye to his disciples and old friends, and then return to the temple with tea soup to bid farewell to the monks. On the first day of July, the class said to everyone, "I will do it tomorrow!" " . In the evening, the master showed a slight illness and sat quietly in Zhang's room with his eyes closed. The next evening, the disciples and others asked for instructions, and the master opened his eyes and said, "The masses read Buddha honestly, so don't blame me or break my rules." After that, I went to Buddhist paradise and died. Shi Shishou has one in eighty, and the monk has fifty. Disciples took relics into the tower at the foot of Wuyun Mountain. It has a history of more than 550 years in the world, from teachers and students of Changda University in Qizu Province to master lianchi. During this period, the teaching method declined and the pure Sect was in a slump. Although there are eminent monks and great virtues who preach the Pure Land Sect to save the decline of Taoism, the results are remarkable. History has proved that master lianchi should be regarded as one of the best, because he has always been cautious and spared no effort.
