Hall of mental cultivation is located in the Forbidden City to the west of the Forbidden City and Gan Qing Palace. It was founded in Jiajing period of Ming Dynasty. At first, it was not the emperor's bedroom. During the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty, the Ministry of Interior set up many workshops for the royal family, which were called "hall of mental cultivation". In the sixty-first year of Kangxi (1722), after the death of Emperor Kangxi, Yong Zhengdi, who ascended the throne, did not move to Gan Qing Palace, his father's bedroom, but hall of mental cultivation, who was temporarily used as his father's filial piety in Zunyi Gate on the west side, was turned into the emperor's bedroom. This house lasted for more than 200 years. After Yongzheng, emperors used it as their living rooms in the Forbidden City until the last emperor Puyi left the palace in 1924+0 1.

Hall of mental cultivation is not only the palace where the emperor lived, but also the most important office in the Forbidden City. Later emperors will go to the "diligent relatives" on the west side of the front hall or summon officials alone or read chapters. There is a circle of wooden boards outside the south window of "Qin Qin Xian". The emperor summoned officials alone, and the internal prison also avoided, which was very private. It is worth mentioning that Yangxintang is separated from the Ministry of War established during the Yongzheng period by a wall.
