Is ebony fragrant?

Dark wood (ancient sunken wood), also known as oolong wood, ebony, sunken wood, carbonized wood, oriental Shenmu, etc. , is a kind of wood that sank in water and soil in ancient times.

Generally, tree species with fragrance and bactericidal properties can be formed (but not all dark trees formed have fragrance, and whether there is fragrance depends on the different tree species formed; Generally, nanmu heavy wood has a fragrance.

There are many species of dark wood, such as Salix psammophila, Qinggang Tree, Cinnamomum camphora, Phoebe bournei (Phoebe bournei and Phoebe bournei), Toona sinensis, Taxus chinensis, Coriaria, Cryptomeria amurensis, Phellodendron amurense, Sophora japonica and Sandalwood (only five kinds of dark wood have been found so far).

Ebony is hard (iron and dark wood are the hardest, while Toona sinensis is soft; Whether the depressed wood can sink into the water and return to the sun (naturally dry in the shade) depends on the different tree species it forms, some are heavy and some are floating-especially the small pieces of finished products generally float on the water), mostly brown-black, black-red, gold and yellow-brown. Its section is smooth and the wood grain is fine, which can be polished to mirror brightness. Some ebony trees are similar in nature to rosewood. It never fades, does not rot, does not produce insects, and is an ideal material for making works of art and antique furniture. Hidden wood is strange. General wood (including Shui Mu, except under special circumstances) burns white ash, while dark wood burns yellow ash. It darkens when exposed to water and returns to its original color after drying. Jamlom vegetable oil is black, shiny and does not fade. When most of the black wood was unearthed, the core of the tree had rotted, leaving only the middle layer of the head and trunk; The severely carbonized surface can not be used as a general material, so it is generally necessary to shave off its outer layer and leave the wood core for later use.

Because ebony has been in a special bottom-up environment for a long time, its color is mostly black, and there are also black outside and red inside (such as the ancient Toona sinensis buried underground for more than 3,000 years, which forms this color), or black outside and yellow inside (such as the ancient Phoebe bournei buried underground for more than 4,000 years, which has this color), and the color is gradually changed. Its original ancient trees are only Toona sinensis, Phoebe bournei, green gang, Liu Ma, Cinnamomum camphora and Sorbus pohuashanensis. Not all ancient trees can be turned into ebony, and not all ebony is black, or black ebony, such as ebony produced in India and Myanmar and persimmon, diesel ebony and chicken wing wood in China, are all black modern wood (a category of tree species, modern, real ebony can only be formed under specific natural conditions and suitable minerals such as groundwater and soil, and the wood itself contains natural preservatives such as eucalyptus oil, so that it can be buried deep for thousands of years. The age and value of ebony can be determined not only by experts' experience, but also by scientific means such as isotopes.
