Li Bai has a sister named Li Yueyuan.
Li Bai had a sister named Li Yueyuan who returned to Sichuan with her father and brother when she was 3 years old. According to legend, Li Yueyuan was not only beautiful, but also a talented girl. Li Yueyuan is two years younger than Li Bai. I also read under the guidance of my father, and there is a story like this.
Their mother asked the brother and sister to write a couplet for each of them: beautiful mountains and clear waters. Li Bai blurted out: The flowers are beautiful and the moon is full. Li Yueyuan quit and said: Why is my brother so embarrassed to use his sister’s name to make a couplet? Why not "Peach Red Li Bai"? This shows how knowledgeable and talented she is.
It is said that when Li Yueyuan was young, he fulfilled his filial piety on behalf of his elder brother Li Bai. Although he was promised a wife, he did not leave the court, so Li Bai built the Pink Bamboo Building as an embroidery building for his sister. Yueyuan often lives here with his girlfriend Zhang Xue'e, amusing himself with music, chess, calligraphy and painting.
Every morning and evening, the cigarette powder and water after washing your face are poured on the bamboo forest downstairs. Over time, the bamboo will be covered with a layer of white powder and become pink bamboo. Therefore, later generations called this building Fenzhu Building. It is said that Jiangyou still retains Yueyuan's former residence.
Some people say that the person Li Bai felt most sorry for was his sister. After Li Bai left Sichuan at the age of 25, he never returned to his hometown until his death. He said that he had no face to come back to see his sister because when Li Bai left Qinglian, he took Li Yueyuan's fiancé with him.
When they arrived in Hubei, Li Yueyuan's fiancé fell ill and passed away soon after. When the news reached Qinglian Town, Li Yueyuan was filled with grief. After Li Yueyuan's fiancé died of illness, Yueyuan became sentimental and eventually died of depression. She was only twenty years old.
In Qinglian Town, Jiangyou, Sichuan, Li Bai’s hometown, there is a tomb of Li Yueyuan. It is rumored that Li Yueyuan is Li Bai's sister. She is not only beautiful but also talented. After Li Bai came out of Shu, he fulfilled his filial piety to his parents. In Li Bai's hometown, Li Yueyuan's reputation is no less than that of his brother.
Records about Li Bai's sister Li Yueyuan first appeared in "The Legend of Mingming" written by Yang Tianhui of the Song Dynasty. Yang Tianhui, Mingji, courtesy name Youfu, was born in Qi County (now Santai County), Sichuan Province in the Northern Song Dynasty. His birth and death dates are unknown. He was a Jinshi in the third year of Xining (1070), the reign of Emperor Shenzong of the Song Dynasty.
When Yang Tianhui was the magistrate of Zhangming County, he wrote the article "Aconite Chronicles of Zhangming" and the book "Anecdotes of Zhangming". The latter has been lost, and only quotations from the book can be seen in other ancient books. These reprinted and preserved materials record some rumors and anecdotes about Li Bai, and have always been valued by scholars who study Li Bai.
