In 1886, Guo Baicang wrote five volumes of "Hai Cuo Bai Yi Lu" based on his decades of personal experience on the beach and his experience in consulting old fishermen. The first volume and the second volume record fishing, fishing tools and fishing methods, and the second volume records 174 species of fish. Volume 3 records the introduction and 121 kinds of shell stones. Volume 4 records 30 species of insects (with an additional note of 24 species of marine plants), which supplements and enriches the content of books before the Qing Dynasty. Most of the records are actual observation records, and many folk materials are used. Volume 5 records seabirds, sea beasts, and seaweed.
