Why is Guangdong called Lingnan?

Guangdong is also called Lingnan area because it is located in the south of Nanling.

Lingnan is the general name of the area south of Wuling in southern China. Wuling consists of five mountains: Yuechengling, Dupangling, Mengzhuling, Qitianling and Dayuling, which are generally distributed at the junction of eastern Guangxi, eastern Guangdong and Hunan and Jiangxi provinces.

The area south of Wuling Mountain Range is mainly Han nationality area. Since ancient times, Lingnan area has belonged to Yangzhou in Kyushu of Han Dynasty. Administratively, Lingnan was the name of Lingnan Road in the Tang Dynasty, which was equivalent to all the territories of Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan and the Red River Delta in Vietnam, which once belonged to the Chinese dynasty.

Later, it was divided into Lingnan East Road and Lingnan West Road, which was the beginning of the division of Guangdong and Guangxi. Now the word Lingnan, especially Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan, Hong Kong and Macao, is the regional scope of South China today.
