Chinese herbal medicine additives are ever-changing, and there is no unified classification at present. According to the characteristics of animal production, feed industry system and the performance of Chinese herbal medicine, the author divides Chinese herbal medicine additives into the following categories.
(1) Immune synergism
is to improve and promote the nonspecific immune function of the body and enhance the immunity and disease resistance of animals. It has been confirmed that Radix Astragali, Radix Acanthopanacis Senticosi, Radix Codonopsis, Radix Phytolaccae, Fructus Aristolochiae, pedicel of melon, Radix Angelicae Sinensis, Herba Epimedii, Herba Andrographis, Garlic, Poria, Cornu Bubali, Polyporus, etc. can be used as immune enhancers.
(2) Hormone-like effects
These additives can play a hormone-like role in the body, and it has been found that Cyperus rotundus, Angelica sinensis, Glycyrrhiza uralensis, Psoralea corylifolia and Fructus Cnidii have estrogen-like effects; Epimedium, ginseng, Cordyceps have androgen-like effects; Herba Asari, Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata, Fructus Evodiae, Rhizoma Alpiniae Officinalis and Fructus Schisandrae Chinensis have adrenalin-like effects. Buffalo horn, andrographis paniculata, Gentiana macrophylla and Tripterygium wilfordii have adrenocorticotropic effects. Semen Ziziphi Spinosae, Fructus Lycii and Garlic have choline-like effects.
(3) Anti-stress
has the function of relieving and preventing stress syndrome, such as acanthopanax senticosus, ginseng and corydalis tuber, which can improve the body's resistance; Astragalus membranaceus and Codonopsis pilosula can prevent adrenal hyperplasia and thymus atrophy in the alert period of stress response and prevent abnormal changes in the resistance period and failure period of stress response, thus playing an anti-stress role; Bupleurum, Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi, Commelina communis, buffalo horn, earthworm, willow and so on have the effect of resisting heat shock.
