Qian Jibo is not only a master of Chinese studies, but also an outstanding educator.

Career

From 1913, I worked as a teacher of literature and history in Wuxi County No.1 Primary School to a professor of private Huazhong University and Huazhong Normal University, and engaged in education for 44 years from primary school to university. Qian Jibo has taught in Wuxi Normal School, Tsinghua University, Shanghai St. John's University, Guanghua University, Wuxi National Studies School and Wuchang Huazhong University. He taught at Huazhong Normal University since 1952 and died in Wuhan in 1957.

Teach by example

In the second year of the Republic of China (1913), Zhao Bingjun, the governor of Zhili, and Feng Guozhang, the governor of Jiangsu, both recruited him as a secretary because of their talent, but he resolutely declined. Qian Jibo put forward the idea that education should first pay attention to normal education to save the country. Schools focus on education rather than punishment. Talents are difficult to train and easy to be destroyed, and positive education is advocated. Qian Jibo commented on teaching in this way: "For teaching, it must be sincere and trustworthy; I think that I can't be ambitious, but I am open to show things; You can't avoid suffering from obvious words, so you should trust the past to understand righteousness, learn to speak frankly, and learn from Ashi without music. "

Qian Jibo's teaching method is to teach by example. He pays attention to the training of normal students' basic Chinese skills in his studies, and instructs students from the door, especially the training of methods and abilities. In the teaching process, use his problem-solving and reading methods to guide students' learning. Qian Jibo taught people to read, and adopted the method of "reading aloud" and "circling points" as the Tongcheng family said.

Qian Jibo put forward a new reform plan for Chinese teaching in old China. The courses of Chinese studies are divided into three categories: reading courses, arranging courses and training courses. This reform plan focuses on reading the original works of ancient books and training students' basic skills; The purpose is to cultivate students' nationality, cultivate students' personality and implement it through strict reading and writing training. According to the above-mentioned curriculum, Qian Jibo has established the hours of each course and distinguished between compulsory and elective courses. The first and second grades are basically compulsory courses; The third and fourth grades are basically optional courses. All the ancient books opened are in the original books.

Qian Jibo is strict in teaching, and teaching by example is more important than teaching by words. Recite the text in order to inspire students to ask more questions. Qian Jibo believes that teachers must be teachers, and their duty is to educate students, change the style of study and change the social atmosphere. Teachers should not only impart knowledge, but also educate students to be human beings. In addition to educating people in teaching, Qian Jibo has always advocated using traditional culture to cultivate students' national self-esteem, and resolutely opposed the worship of foreign things and the total westernization, in order to practice the inherent spirit of the Chinese nation.
