Thorns on Earth is a critical work of China ancient poetry by Wang Guowei, with 64 poems in total. It was first published in China quintessence magazine 1908- 1909. This work is the author's criticism of China's old literature with a brand-new eye after the baptism of western aesthetic thought. On the surface, the style and format of "The Thorn on Earth" are similar to China's poems and thorns. However, The Thorn on Earth has begun to form a theoretical system, which can be regarded as one of the few works of old poetry. Up to now, many scholars still regard its argument as the basis of Ci and aesthetics.
I look at all ancient literary works in the same way: first look at the creative background, then understand the main idea of the text, then experience the emotions by myself, then watch the experts appreciate them, and finally get my own experience.
I read "Words on Earth", sometimes it goes smoothly, and most of the time I stumble.
For example, the branches of red apricots are noisy in spring. With the word "noisy", the realm has come out. Clouds break the moon, flowers make a shadow, and the word "de" is written, and the realm is exhausted. This book reads very smoothly. One is that poetry is very simple, and I am familiar with both poems. Another thing, I agree with the author.
For example, Yan Canglang's poem "The Ninth Word in the World" said: "In the prosperous Tang Dynasty, the princes were only interested, and the antelope was hanging on the horn, and there was no trace to be found. Therefore, its beauty is beautiful and delicate, and it cannot be combined, such as the voice in the air, the color in the phase, the shadow in the water, and the image in the mirror. " I said that the characters before the Northern Song Dynasty were all the same. The so-called "interest" of Canglang and the so-called "charm" of Ruanting are just their appearance. If I choose the word "realm" to explore their origins. "This man read but didn't understand. To understand it, we must first understand what is "antelope hanging horns", "interest" of Yan Canglang and "rhyme" of Ruanting. To understand the translation of this article, we need to find specific works to correspond to various statements. When we find specific works, we should grasp them by the method I mentioned before.
Therefore, it takes great patience and the spirit of Excellence to understand Ci-Hua on Earth. After reading "Thorns on Earth", you didn't just read it once. The thorn in the world is Mr. Wang Guowei's comments on many Tang and Song Ci poems. In the process of reading, you can also learn other classic poems. This is killing two birds with one stone. If you are just reading this book, then what you see is only Mr. Wang Guowei's comments, and you don't know why he made such comments.
I admire Mr. Wang Guowei's profound understanding of poetry. He first put forward the word "realm", said "the highest realm", said "there is my realm, there is no my realm" and so on. There are sixty-four words in the world, some commenting on the East, some commenting on the West, and some commenting on the Book of Songs. Most of them are famous poets of all ages. Some poets, I didn't know them at all before reading "Words on Earth". It can be seen that Mr. Wang Guowei is a master of Chinese studies, and he really deserves his reputation.
However, I don't quite agree with some things in "Words on Earth". For example, "the word takes the realm as the top, and if there is a realm, it is a family." The unique characters of the Five Dynasties and the Northern Song Dynasty are all here. "I think there is a realm because the author has a high style and a broad mind. Rats can't write good words with boundaries. Even if there is a good word, it is petty.
