How long does it take to hold a funeral?

Traditional funeral service

The ancestors of Huangyangchuan people are descendants of the original locals and refugees from Shaanxi and Shanxi. After their respective funerals were combined, they gradually developed into various funeral ceremonies run by antelope people. The Han nationality migrated from the northwest to the south of the Central Plains and other places, and gradually prospered. This is also a representative regional custom.

Taoist priests, commonly known as "Taoist priests", are folk Taoist schools that spread in Huangyangchuan. Anyone whose family is ruined will be invited to a Taoist funeral. Taoist priests will inevitably chant Buddhist scriptures, play suona and beat gongs and drums when mourning. Different Taoist priests wear different robes. Taoist is a believer in feudal superstition, but there are many feudal elements among the masses, which is also a folk custom. There are many things to pay attention to in funerals, especially paintings, paper products and coffins. There are also various ceremonies, such as: evoking souls, running the bridge, evoking souls, offering meals to repay gratitude, bathing on the bridge, welcoming the temple, taking messages on the pole, breaking up and so on. Now we are against superstition, but we will still hold some ceremonies, such as bathing on the bridge, welcoming the temple, posting articles on poles, and so on.

Zhao Wu

Some time before running the bridge, it was called death. There is also a small origin of death: according to Taoism, after a person dies, three souls and seven spirits are enough for the Lord God. To commemorate their ancestors, the children asked the high priest to set up an altar under the guidance of the Lord God, chanting scriptures to turn over the dead, writing documents and chanting scriptures. This means that the Lord God is going to make a fuss.

The process of recruiting dead people is also wonderful: to recruit dead people, there must be some preparation in advance. Let us teenagers first wipe the "rope" with green paper, pick it up with a small stick and dip it in kerosene. This is called green light, and then prepare a thick rope and some souvenirs such as soup, rice and vegetables. The rest is about high guidance. In this way, the memorial service began. There was a table in the venue, with prepared commemorative items on it. Gao Dao shouted at the table. After singing, people lit a pile of grass at the meeting place. The children are lighting it with a green light, the high road is ahead, and the children are running with lights all the way, which means to let the dead walk well on the yellow road. As they approached the door, the dutiful sons held ropes prepared in advance and cried loudly, meaning that they could not give up the dead and would not let them go. The children finally pulled until the people in the room pulled them in, and then they cried in front of the mourning hall. This is the process of recruiting the dead.

Now, this custom still remains in rural areas.

Paoqiao

The night before the deceased was buried, later generations invited Taoist priests to run across the bridge. People are busy connecting two rows of benches in series and laying white cloth in the middle of them. Then put it in the middle with a table. Put a bucket of grain on the top, offer sacrifices and light candles. Put them on the legs of the bench and on the corners of the table. Everything is ready, and "recruiting the king" begins.

Grandpa said that "stringing benches means that the deceased will cross the saddest bridges-Jinqiao and Yinqiao in the next year". There are many ghosts on these two bridges. Hungry, bent, homeless, etc. When the dead cross the bridge, they will block the way. If the dead can't cross the two bridges, they will stay there forever. When running the bridge, Mr. Dao burned paper money from time to time, asking these ghosts wandering by the bridge to make way. When crossing the bridge, the dutiful sons should run behind to escort the dead. When running, the eldest son and the second son held the photo of the deceased and bowed their backs, saying that they were helping the deceased cross the bridge. When future generations cross the bridge, they should take a mirror and walk around the stool for the deceased to watch. The son should also walk around the stool with the photo, indicating that the deceased has crossed the bridge. The lighted lamp is naturally intended to illuminate the way forward for the deceased.

If the deceased crosses the bridge safely, the deceased will be reincarnated again. When running the bridge, there is a bowl at each bridge head, which is used by children to burn paper money. This money was burned to buy a bridge for the deceased.

Repentance spirit

The condolence ceremony was held after running the bridge. During the mourning ceremony, pork, beef, chicken, mutton, biscuits, walnuts, dates, persimmons, sweets, cigarettes and wine were placed on the table. The ceremony was presided over by a professional master. The Taoist priest praised Chang as a master of Confucianism. The Confucian master presided over the filial son to offer meals, and the eulogy was to read the eulogy. At first, sons, daughters-in-law, nephews, nephews and admirers knelt in front of the coffin. The Confucian master asked the eldest son and daughter-in-law to pick up the offerings, put some in the pot burning Mingbi, kowtow and read the eulogy, and then the daughter's confessor, also the eldest daughter. After that, I kowtowed, then the Confucian master read the eulogy, followed by the son-in-law and nephew. The rest are grandchildren (including grandchildren). The form of confession is the same, but the eulogy is different. Kowtowing to offerings is done by the master. For example, if the master asks you to take that thing, you can take it. Playing suona in confession. After the confession, everyone rushed to grab the offerings and drink the sacrifices. People think it is very auspicious to eat and drink with the soul, and the scene is very lively. This is the most lively funeral, the scene is booming, the descendants rise and fall, and the deceased are happy.

When you break up, you send your soul away. People can make paper, and Mr. Tao has his things in his hand. The best way to break up is to summon the soul to hold the party, except for the soul banner, and put a lot of money in other papers. Stop to chant Buddhist scripture, the first meal is covered with yellow rice, served with wine, read sacrificial books, and then light paper paste, so that the soul will not burn and everything will burn out. Tao Ye went away in front, blowing and beating, with his eldest son Pima Dai Xiao and other dutiful sons crying and following. After going, the eldest son was carrying a cold basin on his head, and two people fell on the road with their hands. On that day, his son's head was shaved. If the deceased was a woman, my uncle nailed the coffin lid. When nailing, the son put a wooden wedge, a bowl of water and an axe on his head, and then nailed the lid with clear water. If the deceased was male, the coffin was nailed by the elders in the village. After checking and sealing the coffin, the sons carried the coffin head to the customs and put two benches at each customs place. Meng Weiwei stood on the high platform in front of the coffin, holding high the crane flag and swinging from side to side. The dutiful sons read "Around the Coffin Master" and all offered wine and food. The coffin was carried by 18 people with a thick stick tied to it. The sons walked in front, walked in the bottom, holding the inheritance in their hands. There is a man walking in front, throwing money. The grave has been buried. When buried, the eldest son carried the first shovel on his head, and then people buried the coffins one by one. Burn the coffin in the grave and incense it, and add soil three days later.

After death, the cry of the dutiful son and the sorrow and joy of suona make people feel sad. The sadness at this time is even more sad, which makes people feel particularly sad.

Paper is made of multicolored paper paste, and its utensils include: Phyllostachys praecox stem (a plant that grows on the seashore and looks like a bamboo stem), wood board, paper, paste and so on. Then you have to use your own ingenuity to cut, fold, paste, color matching and so on. These are all done by Taoists. Mainly paper-pasting people, horses, cars, treasures, toilet paper buildings, and yin and yang cities. There are soul flags, incense flags, guiding flags, and the most exquisite is the soul flag, Baoshan. Soul is a crane's flag, with the crane's flag in its mouth, and the name of the deceased and the dates of birth and death are written on the middle bar. Draw a picture of three souls dying, with more than ten colorful stripes written on it, such as "Wandering in the wild", "Spitting a golden lotus", "Breathing three flavors of fire in the nose", "Listening to Wan Li people" and "Seeing the world all around", and so on, with colorful flowers, melon eggs (beautiful decorations) and so on. Baoshan is Baoshan, with gold and silver on the head and houses and the like below, which are empty and have windows at the back. Here are the steps. The upper part of the colorful flag made of colored paper is inserted in four corners, and then the other parts are pasted with triangles made of gold paper. There is a vase made of colored paper on it: paper flowers are inserted in it, and the golden water bucket is built like this. Silver barrels and gold barrels are almost the same, but they are all made of gold paper. If you want to see its various styles and regular changes, you must come in person. Only by visiting can you know some of its legends and see its true colors. This is some etiquette about funeral.

A story about mourning customs

On the traditional custom of funeral, why are there so many rules in funeral? If you want to understand this, then you have to use allusions. Ask the scholar and the old man. Old people often say that after death, people will eventually go to the underworld (where the soul goes) and report to the king of hell. After death, the soul will still wander around the world, and only through crossing will the soul be possessed. Whenever someone in the family dies, Taoist priests (Yin and Yang teachers) are always invited to recite scriptures for the deceased. A Taoist priest is a guide who leads the dead to the underworld. He can speak Sanskrit about all the gates of hell. At the same time, we should prepare travelling expenses for the deceased, such as mingbi, horses, gold and silver barrels, crane banners, boy banners, incense banners, longevity paper stoves, etc. For example: chanting (Sanskrit for the soul), every time someone dies, the Taoist priest has to say it. Every afternoon, Taoist priests beat gongs and drums and blew suona. The leading Taoist priest put on his cassock and followed his dutiful son to the king. To find the king, set a long table first, and the Taoist priests gather on both sides of the Taoist priests wearing vestments to blow and beat, and the Taoist priests wearing vestments have to recite scriptures. The dutiful sons cried. Past sufferings are all contained in tears, and we should pour out our own sufferings for the dead. Seeking the king is Sanskrit used by Taoist priests for the dead. It is said that at this moment, Taoist priests can still see the dead, show the way to the dead and give him some instructions. Banners of different sizes symbolize a person's blood, and only the crane banner symbolizes a person's five faces. For example, the gold and silver bucket is a dowry for Yan State, which was specially escorted to Yan State by the escorting general. Improve the post to make the Taoist wish the dead more distinctive. Once the paper stove rises, it can attract ghosts and the dead to get together. Put in a good word for the dead, so you must provide food, wine and seats for them to enjoy under the birthday paper stove every day.

For example, if a paper garment burns on earth, it will be a real garment in the underworld. So, once those gold and silver barrels, birthday paper stoves, horses, etc. It was burned on the day the deceased was buried, which indicated that the funeral would be over. Taoist said that the bigger the funeral of the deceased, the lighter the sin of the deceased and the faster the reincarnation.
