Why did Sun Dianying, the thief of the Republic of China, steal only the tombs of the Qing Dynasty, but not those of the Ming Dynasty?

Speaking of Sun Dianying, friends who know the modern history of China are familiar with him. Everyone knows that he was a notorious warlord in the Republic of China, and there were many brave soldiers under his command. He defected to various warlords many times and started by selling opium and digging graves. Later, in 1928, he joined the Kuomintang and served as the commander of the twelfth army of the sixth army, which was famous throughout the country in Malanyu, Hebei Province. Because of the two tombs he stole, one was the Yuling of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty and the other was the Dingling of Empress Dowager Cixi. This made him the "first grave robber" in the Republic of China. Besides, he was not convicted by the government of the Republic of China for robbing a tomb. Instead, it relied on stolen treasures to buy off senior officials of the government of the Republic of China, constantly promoting and making a fortune, and sensationalizing the whole country. Finally, think about how many grave robbers coveted the treasures in these imperial tombs and were finally captured by a warlord. I think Sun Dianying is also very good at grave robbery.

Then the problem is coming. Speaking of which, Sun Dianying is so smart, why only pick the grave robbers of the Qing emperor, but don't touch the imperial tombs of the Ming dynasty? It stands to reason that there are many royal tombs in Beijing that are older and rarer than the Qing tombs. There were the Ming Tombs before the Qing Dynasty, and the older they are, the more valuable they are. Think about the famous thieves in ancient times, such as Wu Zixu, Cao Cao, Dong Zhuo and others. Instead of digging the tombs of ancient emperors, they stole many peerless treasures with the heart of "robbing the tomb is the best". Isn't this grave robber Sun Dianying different from them? He has a strong patriotic feeling, and he has the idea of "not stealing the Han people's own tombs, but digging the holes of Manchu emperors".

In fact, this is not the case. At that time, Sun Dianying was robbing a tomb for the purpose of preparing arms and money. In fact, he has long coveted the tomb of Qingming, just because most of the builders of the tomb of Qingming are still alive, and it is easy to find the entrance, so it is reasonable to start with the tomb that is most likely to be stolen. Not only that, but also out of resentment against the Manchu people who almost wiped out their ancestors for three generations when they entered the customs. What's going on here? If you have a certain understanding of Sun Dianying's family background, you will know that Sun Dianying's ancestors had a wide network of contacts, and Sun Dianying's ancestors were Sun Chengzong, a senior minister of the Ministry of War of the Ming Dynasty and a university student of Dongge.

Yuan Chonghuan, Ma Shilong and other anti-Qing heroes in the late Ming Dynasty were all brought out by him. They once recovered more than 400 miles of lost land, and Ning Guan's famous defensive fortress was built under his supervision. Unfortunately, he was suspected by Emperor Chongzhen and forced to retire. At the end of the Ming Dynasty, he led his family and the residents of the whole city to defend the city against the Manchu Dynasty. In the end, due to Enemy at the Gates, the city was destroyed and the people in the whole city were massacred by the Qing Dynasty. Sun Chengzong's four descendants, only one escaped from the nanny when the city was broken, and brought out a baby boy. Later, bamboo slips slowly extended, allowing Sun Chengzong's descendants to continue the incense. It is conceivable that Sun Dianying hated the Qing Dynasty. Later, Sun Dianying said that the Qing Dynasty killed three generations of his ancestors only for revenge.

It is worth mentioning that Sun Dianying only took gold, silver and jewels after stealing the tomb of Qianlong, instead of ancient books on painting and calligraphy. Even if he didn't do calligraphy and painting, he pushed all the more than 700 famous paintings buried at that time into the water in the grave, and the result was all dregs. However, this is what annoys me the most. You should know that these famous paintings are all from ancient famous paintings, and they are ancient books treasured by Emperor Qianlong for many years. However, for his greed for money, how many masterpieces have been destroyed and how many classic ancient books have been lost!
