The Art Department of Tibet University is the only base in Tibet that can train high-level art professionals. The specialty of this department highlights the characteristics of national art, and the traditional art courses such as Tibetan Tangka and Tibetan song and dance have unique characteristics of national traditional culture and art. As of June 2002, the art department has sent nearly 1000 art professionals to the education and art system in the whole region, and most of them have become professional and technical backbones of relevant departments, making positive contributions to the development of economy, society, culture and education in our region.
From 1985, the art department of Tibet University was formally established, and in 2000, the art college of the autonomous region was merged into the art department of Tibet University, and the professional structure of the art department gradually became reasonable. According to the characteristics of our region and the social needs, the art department has now set up three majors: music, fine arts and dance, and has seven teaching and research sections, including music history, vocal music, instrumental music, Tibetan fine arts, painting history, national dance and historical theory, and basic dance skills, as well as teaching and research institutions such as "China-Korea Art College" and "Tibet University Art College". There are 68 professional teachers in the Department of Art, including 3 professors, 7 associate professors, 2 lecturers1person, 37 teaching assistants and 6 administrative staff, and there is a master's degree awarding point for Tibetan painting.
At present, the art department has formed a multi-level school-running system with undergraduate education as the main body and postgraduate education, junior college education, technical secondary school education and adult education as the supporting systems. The cultivation of students is mainly divided into several categories: art history theory (graduate students), art education (normal classes), art creation and art performance.
Music majors in the Art Department offer musicology, music pedagogy, vocal singing, instrumental performance and composition. Tibetan traditional music is a major feature of the music discipline of the art department. This major not only inherits the excellent traditional Tibetan music, but also has made gratifying achievements in historical research, textbook compilation and personnel training.
The fine arts major of the Department of Fine Arts offers subjects such as fine arts, fine arts education, art design, traditional crafts, traditional sculpture and stage art. This major is divided into two parts: traditional art and modern art. As a characteristic major of the Department of Fine Arts, traditional art inherits and develops excellent traditional skills, and has made remarkable achievements in developing and absorbing new techniques, studying historical theories, compiling teaching materials and developing traditional painting pigments.
The dance major of art department includes choreography, dance performance and other majors, and has two academic levels: undergraduate and technical secondary school. This subject is developed on the basis of the dance major of the former autonomous region art school and the music education major of the art department. For more than 20 years, this major has not only trained a large number of performing talents for art groups at all levels in the region, but also trained many teachers for the art department. Since its establishment, the dance major of the Art Department has participated in such influential high-level competitions as Hongkong International Dance Festival, Yangcheng International Dance Festival, China Youth Art Festival "Peach and Plum Cup" Dance Competition, National Minority "Peacock Award" Dance Competition and "Lotus Award" National Dance Competition, and achieved excellent results.
