What is data news?

Data news, also called data-driven news. It refers to a new way of news reporting based on data capture, mining, statistics, analysis and visual presentation. Data news is produced in the technical background of big data. Data news is a new form of reporting with the advent of the data age, and it is the inevitable result of the comprehensive penetration of data technology into the news field. Its appearance has changed the traditional news production process to some extent.

The first news report using data can be traced back to May 5, 182 1, the front page news of the first newspaper in the history of The Guardian: the number of primary school students in Manchester and their average consumption. These data can now be downloaded from the Guardian website to the original PDF data.

Characteristics of data news:

1. Serve the public interest;

2. Based on published data;

3. Processing data through special software programs and mining news stories hidden behind macro and abstract data;

4. Visual presentation of news with interactive images.
