What is flocculant?

Flocculants are mainly groups with positive (negative) charge and some particles that are difficult to separate in water or particles with negative (positive) charge, so as to reduce their potential and make them in an unstable state. These particles are concentrated by using their polymerization properties and separated by physical or chemical methods.

Flocculants can be divided into inorganic flocculants and organic flocculants according to chemical composition. Wherein, the inorganic flocculant comprises an inorganic coagulant and an inorganic polymer flocculant; Organic flocculant includes synthetic organic polymer flocculant, natural organic polymer flocculant and microbial flocculant.

There are many kinds of flocculants, from low molecular to high molecular, from single type to compound type, and the general trend is to develop in the direction of low cost, practicality, non-toxicity and high efficiency. Inorganic flocculant is cheap, but it will have adverse effects on human health and ecological environment.

Main applications of flocculants:

1, municipal sewage

The removal rate of COD and BOD in domestic sewage can reach 100% by using efficient mixed flora with flocculation and degradation functions.

2, building materials wastewater

The former mainly contains more clay particles, while the latter contains a considerable amount of glaze powder besides clay particles. The turbidity of embryo wastewater decreased from 1.4 to 0.043 after adding NOC- 1 5min. The turbidity of glaze powder wastewater decreased from 17.2 to 0.35; The turbidity removal rates were 96.6% and 97.9% respectively, and the supernatant was almost transparent. Flocculants produced by Rhodopseudomonas rubra were used to treat wastewater from brick and tile factories, and the treated supernatant was almost transparent.

3. Other applications

Microbial flocculant is gradually applied to food wastewater treatment because of its safety and non-toxicity, and satisfactory results have been achieved. In addition, microbial flocculant can also be widely used in the treatment of urban sewage, hospital sewage, petrochemical wastewater, papermaking wastewater, pharmaceutical wastewater and so on.
