Origin of the Eight Tones:
First, it refers to eight kinds of materials used to make musical instruments in ancient China, usually made of eight different materials: gold, stone, silk, bamboo, clay, leather and wood.
second, it refers to the folk musical instruments. For example, the musical instruments used in the Eight Music Concert in Wutai Mountain, Shanxi Province, include pipe, suona, sea flute, sheng, meidi, Xiao, hall drum, small drum, large cymbal, small cymbals, big gong and cloud gong. There is also the Longlin Eight-tone Band of Zhuang nationality in Guangxi, which uses eight musical instruments: a pair of transverse flutes (flutes), one for gaohu and Erhu, one for a small three-stringed instrument, and one for gongs, drums and cymbals. There are also Zhuang Eight Tones in Yongning, Nanning, Yi Eight Tones, Hainan Eight Tones from Chaozhou Music, Gelao Eight Tones and so on.
Third, it refers to eight tones of Buddhism, especially eight tones, namely, excellent tone, soft tone, harmonious tone, respecting wisdom tone, non-feminine tone, non-mispronouncing tone, far-reaching tone and non-stop tone.
