It first appeared in Han dynasty, and was later called crocodile in Ming and Qing dynasties. There are records about crocodiles in the Book of Rites Sacrificing Crocodiles. For example, in Li Shizhen's records, crocodiles are still a rare medicinal material. It is believed that some parts of crocodiles can be used to treat symptoms such as heart disease and dampness.
