During the Western Jin Dynasty, there was a grave robber in Henan. Once he dug up an ancient tomb. But to his great disappointment, there is no so-called treasure in this ancient tomb, only bamboo pieces that can be seen everywhere are worthless in the eyes of grave robbers, so he didn't destroy them or take them out. Later, someone discovered this ancient tomb and reported it to the government. Later, after sorting out these bamboo pieces, officials found that these bamboo pieces were books, including the chronology of bamboo books. Later, the publication of these books also alarmed Emperor Wu of Jin, who personally ordered the collation of these books.
They found that the ancient tomb belonged to the Warring States period in the books they sorted out, and they were very shocked by the events recorded in these books, because the events recorded were quite different from what they knew. For example, according to Records of the Historian, in ancient times, it was abdication system, and Yao passed the throne to Shun when he was old. However, The Year of Bamboo Book records the throne that Shun seized. For example, Records of the Historian recorded that Yi Yin was exiled because of disorderly conduct, while Annals of Bamboo Records recorded that Yi Yin was exiled because he wanted to rebel.
Later, many people blamed the falsehood of historical records. It was not until the end of the Western Jin Dynasty that the chronology of bamboo books was banned by Confucianism.
