Although historical records show that the capital of the Yuan Dynasty was located in Beijing, the location of most parts of the Yuan Dynasty has always been a mystery. It is inferred that most of the Yuan Dynasty may be in or near the Forbidden City, and the specific address cannot be verified. Because it has disappeared for 500 to 600 years. Some time ago, a large and complete underground palace in the early Yuan Dynasty was found in the ruins on the east side of the Forbidden City, and many porcelains were unearthed. Through further excavation, people found that the underground palace was well preserved.
This discovery shocked archaeologists in China, but no one dared to dig any further. Although this is a major discovery, it is impossible to carry out a large-scale excavation in the Forbidden City. In addition, it is preliminarily judged that the underground buildings in the Yuan Dynasty were once one of the most important palaces in the Forbidden City. If the Palace Museum is excavated underground, it will probably cause great damage to the existing buildings. Because the underground of the Forbidden City has a good drainage system, even hall of mental cultivation has a floor heating system.
It is very difficult to excavate a complete underground palace in the Yuan Dynasty without destroying the existing ground buildings. There is no guarantee that 100% will succeed. Therefore, experts have reached a consensus, first of all, we should make a maintenance plan to repair the underground buildings of the Forbidden City, and then further unveil the mystery of the Forbidden City when the technology develops to a certain extent.
