Professor Xu Hongxing, a native of Shanghai, was born in 1954. In 1978, he entered history at East China Normal University and received his bachelor's degree in 1982. He then transferred to Fudan University and received his master's degree in intellectual history and a doctorate in Chinese philosophy. After graduation, he stayed at the school to teach. He once served as the director and deputy director of the Teaching and Research Office of the History of Chinese Philosophy in the Department of Philosophy of Fudan University, a Fulbright scholar in the United States, a visiting professor at Harvard University, a visiting professor at Fu Jen Catholic University in Taiwan, and a visiting scholar at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He is currently a professor in the Department of Philosophy at Fudan University, a doctoral supervisor in Chinese philosophy, and a chairman of the Professional Committee on the History of Chinese Philosophy of the Shanghai Philosophical Society. Xu Hongxing once studied Confucianism under the tutelage of Mr. Zhu Weizheng, and studied Neo-Confucianism in the Song and Ming Dynasties under the tutelage of Mr. Pan Fuen. His current main research interests and directions are in the history of Chinese philosophy, the history of Chinese Confucianism, the history of Chinese thought, and Neo-Confucianism in the Song and Ming dynasties. He has published more than 70 academic papers in "Chinese Social Sciences", "Philosophical Research", "History of Chinese Philosophy", "Confucius and Mencius Monthly" (Taiwan), "Confucius Studies", "Journal of Fudan University" and other publications; in Zhonghua Book Company (Hong Kong), Sanlian Bookstore, Shanghai People's Publishing House, Shanghai Ancient Books Publishing House, Oriental Publishing Center, etc. published 15 monographs. He has undertaken 1 national social science project, 1 provincial and ministerial project, and currently undertakes 1 Shanghai social science project. He has won many provincial and ministerial level awards.
