Lin, a native of Putian, Fujian, has lived in Sanming for many years and is now a music teacher in Sanming No.8 Middle School.
10 years ago, when Lin wrote the novel Blowing Creek Trilogy, he used Puxian dialect for the first time in the novel, which was affirmed by many Puxian experts and readers, and the idea of compiling Puxian Dialect Dictionary sprouted.
In the long-term research and exploration, Lin found that the pronunciation of Puxian dialect is different from that of Putonghua. He decided to give priority to Chinese Pinyin, supplemented by International Phonetic Alphabet and English Phonetic Alphabet, with seven tones, and to mark Arabic numerals in the back upper corner of Pinyin to facilitate people's spelling.
According to natural phenomena or social attributes, words are translated with modern words for the purpose of words. Different meanings are divided into several articles. In order to make readers understand, there are also special "comparison table", "tone table", "language example table" and "word lookup table"
Lin Jin spent a lot of time reading countless ancient books and chose examples to prove the words, from which we can see the origin of ancient Chinese and Puxian dialect. Open a thick dictionary and you can see that most words are followed by ancient examples. In addition, the folk proverbs, sayings, mantras and allusions related to Puxian are listed one by one to show readers the unique folk customs in Puxian area.
Lin believes that the pronunciation of every dialect should have a matching word. Sure enough, in the process of reading ancient books, Lin found many words that have disappeared in modern Chinese, only matching the pronunciation of dialects.
Lin said that dialect is the carrier of local culture, and the purpose of compiling dictionaries is to make some contributions to the excavation and protection of local culture by studying dialects.
