How to use Notefirst reference management software

Four methods of collecting literature materials

1. Import full-text documents collected from personal computers.

Each of us collected some files and stored them in one or more folders on our personal computer. We can use "file import" to easily import into NoteFirst's personal record database. When importing, the title folder will be automatically created according to the folder name.

2. Import documents directly from the online document database.

NoteFirst can directly form an IE plug-in, which is convenient for users to import interested documents from online literature databases such as Springer, Elsevier, Medline, IEEEXplore, HowNet and Wanfang. To their own personal bibliographic database, thus avoiding the trouble of bibliographic data input.

There are three import methods:

1) On the title summary page of the browser, the option of "Add Title to NoteFirst Client" will appear in the right-click menu. Click this option to automatically add a title record for this page. NoteFirst also has a mainstream online database directory built into the software, and users can directly click into the database to query documents.

2) At present, many online database literature pages provide the link of "Export to NoteFirst". Click this link to import the selected title into NoteFirst.

3) If the database does not provide a link to NoteFirst for the time being, but provides other reference management software, such as EndNote, RefWorks, NoteExpress, etc. , you can export in these ways, and then import the title through the "Import Title" function provided by NoteFirst.

3. Import titles from other similar software into NoteFirst.

If users have used other similar software before, they can transfer data by "importing title records". Through the menu bar "folder > import records". NoteFirst currently provides six filters: EndNote, Refmanager, RefWorks, NoteExpress, BibTex and Bibliogscape tags.

4. Enter the document title information manually.

Of course, NoteFirst also provides the option to add titles manually. When creating a new record, you must first select a record type. After selecting the record type, the metadata to be added will be determined. When entering the author, the NoteFirst system will intelligently distinguish the author's last name from his first name. When the author has a Chinese name, the English name will be automatically added.

Insert document data and support output in multiple formats.

NoteFirst can help the author to write in Word, and at the same time, it can easily insert the documents in the personal document database into the Word document, and automatically form a reference mark and a reference list after the text. It also has unique functions such as multilingual scheme, bilingual reference output and multi-periodical format output.

1, Word plug-in

When NoteFirst is installed, it will automatically form a Word plug-in (as shown on the right).

2. Automatically form citation marks and reference lists.

NoteFirst provides two ways to insert citations. First, after the customer selects the literature to be cited, click the "Insert into word" icon in the shortcut toolbar to insert the selected citation into the cursor of the currently active Word document. In addition, you can select the citation to be inserted in the NoteFirst client and click "Citation Insert" in the plug-in of Word.

You can insert more than one citation at a time. NoteFirst supports single selection, continuous selection and multiple selection. After the citation is inserted, the citation mark will be automatically inserted into the text, and a list of references will be formed at the end of the text. You can also switch to other journal styles with one click, and you can adjust the display of references and paragraphs as needed.

User login and software main interface

NoteFirst is very convenient to use. This paper introduces the composition of user login and software main interface.

NoteFirst(V 1.4. 1) login window

1, user login and use

NoteFirst has two login methods (as shown on the right). The first one is to log in online with a personal registered account and password, so that you can use the latest personal literature database simultaneously no matter where you log in with which computer. Of course, if you can't surf the Internet for a few days, you can also log on in stand-alone mode, and still use the functions of document management and paper writing, but you can't synchronize data and communicate online. NoteFirst online document management software provides these two services at the same time, which is unique among all document management software and is also the most considerate of users.

2. Introduction to the main interface of the software

The main interface of the software after the user logs in is shown in the following figure. Users can manage their favorite documents through menu bar, shortcut toolbar and right-click operation.

Main interface of NoteFirst (V 1.4. 1)

A) On the left is the Tree Folder Workspace, where you can manage personal document databases in multiple folders. It is worth mentioning that these are virtual folders, which means that a document can be managed in multiple folders, but there is only one record in the actual storage. You only need to modify it in one place when modifying it. Folders support multi-level nesting, allowing users to create, delete, rename and move folders.

B) In the middle is the "Title List Area", which displays the list of documents in the folder and the main document title information. The display order of these information can be edited by individuals. I choose to display type, grade, year, author, title and other information.

C) In the lower right corner is the "preview area of document title details", which displays relevant information of each document, including title details, article abstracts, fields, etc.

D) Others include menu bar, shortcut toolbar and title list area.

Adding comments can be achieved by "Add Comments" in the right-click menu of the title list area or "Comments" in the title details area; After adding notes successfully, NoteFirst will display a green block in the tab bar, indicating that there are notes in the title book.
