Online Chronicle of Ancient Books in Three Kingdoms

Zhu Gejin Yu Zi is from Yang Du County, Langya County. At the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty, he came to Jiangdong to avoid disaster, and Sun Ce died. Sun Quan's brother-in-law saw it, thought he was different from ordinary people, and recommended him to Sun Quan. Together with Lu Su and others, he was treated by the guests, and later served as the long history of Sun Quan and became the new Sima. In the twentieth year of Jian 'an, Sun Quan sent Zhu Gejin to Shu to befriend Liu Bei. He and his younger brother Zhuge Liang met on business (only later) and never met privately again.

Zhu Gejin is handsome and considerate. At that time, people admired his generosity and elegance, and Sun Quan also valued him. He was consulted on important issues. (He) talked to Sun Quan to exhort irony. He never exposed (his words) violently, but (only) showed a slight demeanor and clarified the main points of his views. If he doesn't agree with (Sun Quan's mind), he will give up (it) and talk about other things, and slowly borrow other things to arouse the previous topic and use similar things to get Sun Quan's understanding. Therefore, sun quan's opinions are often ignored. Zhi Zhu, the satrap of Wu County, was a general promoted by Sun Quan, who always respected him. Sun Quan once held a grudge against him for something, but it was hard to reprimand him in person and let him go. Zhu Gejin figured out the reason, but didn't dare to say it publicly, so he wrote a letter in front of Sun Quan to discuss things extensively, so as to guess Sun Quan's mind with his own ideas. After writing, I handed the letter to Sun Quan. He was very happy and said with a smile, "My mind has been untied. Yan Yuan's virtue brings people closer together. Is it (not) such a thing? " Sun Quan once blamed Yin Mo, a captain, and the charges against him were surprising. Many ministers interceded for Yin Mo, but Sun Quan was furious and argued with others repeatedly. Only Zhu Gejin was silent. Sun Quan said, "Why doesn't Yu Zi speak alone?" Zhu Gejin left, saying, "Yin Mo and I were in chaos in our hometown, and all the people died. (We) give up our ancestral graves, help the old and carry the young, drive away weeds, and (come) realize. Among the servants in exile, they suffer from the happiness of ascending to the immortal, but they can't urge and encourage each other, and (want) to repay one-tenth (kindness), so that the evil spirit failed the kindness of the saint and fell into sin. It's too late for me to plead guilty. I really dare not say anything. " Sun Quan was very sad to hear these words and said, "(I) forgave him for you." Yu Fan was exiled because he was wild and outspoken, and only Zhu Gejin interceded for him many times.

Liu Bei crusaded against Wu Dong, and the prince of Wu made peace. Zhu Gejin wrote a letter to Liu Bei, saying, "(I) heard that the army had arrived in Baidicheng, and some people were worried that (your) adviser would kill Guan Yu because the king of Wu invaded Jingzhou. His resentment was deep and harmful. (But) he thinks that reconciliation should not be promised. This is focusing on small things, without considering big things. Please allow me to try to analyze the importance and size of this matter for your majesty. If your majesty can restrain his anger and calm down his resentment, consider what I said for a while, and your idea will be settled, so you don't need to discuss it with ministers. Does your majesty think that the close relationship with Guan can be compared with the relationship with Emperor Wu of Han Dynasty? Can Jingzhou match the size of the whole world? In the same face of hatred, which should be the first and which should be the last? If we can weigh this truth, it will be a piece of cake. " At that time, it was said that Zhu Gejin sent another confidant to inform Liu Bei. Sun Quan said: "I have an eternal contract with Yuzi, and Yu Zi will not fail me, just as I will not fail Yu Zi."
