The Secret of Wai Tai can be said to be a masterpiece before the Tang Dynasty and has become one of the important documents of traditional Chinese medicine. Wang Dao was born in 670 AD and died in 755 AD. Wang Dao was born into an official family, and his grandfather Wang Jue was one of the prime ministers in the early Tang Dynasty. He is honest and good at remonstrance, and, like him, he is also the teacher of his eldest son, Li. Wang Dao's father, Li Jingzhi, was attached to Princess Nanping and was knighted. Wang Dao's two sons also became officials. The eldest son is Shao Qing of Dali Temple, and the second son is an assassin in Suzhou. Wang Dao was sickly since childhood, and her mother Princess Nanping was in poor health. He was very filial, took care of his mother, read a lot of medical books, looked for a panacea, and gradually became interested in medicine. Wang Dao was once the prefect of Sima He in Xuzhou, but in order to have the opportunity to read medical books, he went to the Royal Library at that time. Since then, he eagerly read medical books since the Jin and Tang Dynasties. He stayed here for 20 years. While reading a large number of medical books systematically, he also extracted them in detail, and accumulated a large number of medical materials day and night, year after year. Among them, there were as many as fifty or sixty in ancient times alone. Later, he was demoted to a house order and was placed in nearby Daning County after being pardoned. The local climate is hot and humid, and people get miasma. Nine times out of ten, they are born to die. He has no personal prejudice and absorbs the advantages of many schools. In Secrets of Foreign Taiwan Province, he quoted as many as 60 previous medical books, and almost all the works left by doctors were the objects of his discussion, which can be described as "from Shennong to Tang Dynasty". He not only carefully studied the works such as "A Thousand Gold Prescriptions for Emergency" and "Elbow Emergency Prescriptions", but also collected some little-known and not widely circulated works, such as Chen's Sketch Prescription and Prescription.
