What is "Three Rites"

The name of "Three Rites" began in Zheng Xuan in the Eastern Han Dynasty, referring to Zhou Li, Yi Li and Li Ji. In his "General Theory of Confucian Classics", Pi said: "The names of the three rites began at the end of the Han Dynasty, but only at the beginning of the Han Dynasty. The so-called ceremony in the Han dynasty is the ceremony in the seventeen articles today, but there is no name in the Han dynasty, so it is called ceremony. There are forty-nine articles, seventeen articles of rites, and Zhou Guanjing, which are called three rites and three books. Therefore, Zheng Zhu prevailed in later generations, so the three books are called three rites. " ",formerly known as Zhou Guan, was called in the late Western Han Dynasty. The Legend of Zhou Li was written by Zhou Gongdan. Or it means "Sunday officials". Zhou Li is divided into six chapters: celestial officials, local officials, spring officials, summer officials, officials and winter officials. The six officials symbolize the harmony between heaven and earth and embody the idea of "ruling heaven by the people". The winter official died in Han dynasty, and Confucian scholars in Han dynasty supplemented it with Chinese books. The Book of Rites of Zhou is extremely rich in content, mainly telling various famous things. Yi Li is called the Jin Dynasty. It is said that Yi Li was formulated by Duke Zhou or Confucius, and it is considered as a compilation of some etiquette systems in the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period. This book should have been written in the early and middle Warring States period. The so-called "Five Classics" in the Pre-Qin and Western Han Dynasties all refer to Yi Li. Yi Li is divided into seventeen chapters, including Guan Shili and Poetry Wedding. Generally, it refers to the Book of Rites of Little Dressing compiled by Dai Sheng in the Western Han Dynasty. The Book of Rites is an anthology of various Confucian etiquette works before Qin and Han Dynasties recorded by Confucius after his seventies, including Qu Li, Tan Gong, Wang Zhi and Li Yun. Among them, The Doctrine of the Mean and The University were included in the Four Books by Zhu. However, some chapters were written by Confucian scholars in Qin and Han Dynasties. After the Tang Dynasty, The Book of Rites became more and more important, gradually surpassing Zhou Li and Yi Li. In addition, there is the Great Dai Li Book compiled by Dai Sheng's uncle Dade. The theory of "Three Rites" is the theoretical form of China's ancient ritual and music culture, which had a great influence on China's later political system, social thought, cultural tradition and ethical concept.
