Explanation of terms

Shu is a meaning character, which is composed of ? (tū) and 疋 (shū) in seal script. 疋 also expresses a sound. Dredging originally means to remove blockages and make them unobstructed. It is extended to mean dispersed, then extended to mean sparse, and further extended to mean distantly related. A distant relationship between people and things means unfamiliarity and unfamiliarity; a distant relationship between people means alienation; a large distance means that there is no closeness, so it is extended to roughness. Shu also refers to the further explanation of old annotations in ancient books.
