Brief introduction of Tan Qixiang
Tan Qixiang (1911.2.25-1992.8.28), born in Fengtian (now Shenyang, Liaoning), is a historian and historical geographer. One of the founders of historical geography in China. 1 1930 graduated from the history department of Jinan University, and 1932 graduated from yenching university Graduate School. Before the founding of New China, he taught in Fu Jen, Peiping, Yanjing, Tsinghua, Zhejiang and Jinan universities. After the founding of People's Republic of China (PRC), he served as professor of Fudan University, director of history department, director of China Institute of Historical Geography, member of the Department of Geology of China Academy of Sciences, member of the first discipline evaluation group of the State Council Academic Degree Committee, member of the planning group for the collation and publication of ancient books in the State Council, and deputy director and editor-in-chief of the editorial board of National Historical Atlas. 1960 was awarded the title of national advanced worker in culture and education. Member of the Jiu San Society. Deputies to the Third to Fifth National People's Congress. One of the founders of modern historical geography in China. 1934, Gu Jiegang and others initiated the establishment of Gong Yu Society, the first academic group of historical geography in China, and founded Gong Yu bimonthly. In his early years, he studied geographical evolution, territorial history and ethnic issues and formed his own system. Since 1955, he has been responsible for compiling the Atlas of Chinese History, devoted himself to the study of the Yellow River system and made contributions to the study of the history of the Yellow River. He has been engaged in the teaching and research of the history of China and the history and geography of China for a long time, involving territory, administrative regions, cities, water systems, land and sea changes, population, nationality, culture, economy, historical and geographical ancient books, geographical history, historical figures and so on. The main works are included in the first and second volumes of Long Water Collection (1987) and Long Water Collection (65438). The Atlas of Chinese History edited by him is by far the most authoritative atlas of historical administrative divisions in China. He also edited Historical Geography Volume of Cihai, Historical Geography of China, Historical Geography of China Historical Dictionary, etc.
