Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine, founded in 1954, is one of the earliest institutions of higher learning of Chinese medicine in China, and a state-level "world-class discipline construction university" jointly established by the Ministry of Education and Jiangsu Province.
It is a university jointly established by the Ministry of Education, Jiangsu Provincial People's Government and state administration of traditional chinese medicine, a key university in Jiangsu Province and a high-level university in Jiangsu Province. It is the International Acupuncture Training Center designated by the World Health Organization (WHO) Cooperation Center for Traditional Medicine and the Ministry of Health, the first batch of authorized units for doctoral and master's degrees in China, and the national key protection unit for ancient books.
The National TCM Teachers' Continuing Education Base, high-level universities and colleges with national postgraduate programs, universities with key disciplines with national characteristics, the first batch of pilot universities for the reform of the national excellent doctor (TCM) education and training plan, the national-level talent training mode innovation experimental zone, and the scholarship receiving institution of the China Municipal Government are the founding members of the world-class TCM University Construction Alliance and the Yangtze River Delta Medical Education Alliance.
