Shen Yan is yesterday's Boshan, and Boshan is the continuation and development of Shen Yan.

Boshan, the municipal district farthest from downtown Zibo, is a beautiful mountain city. 270 years ago, the place name here was Shen Yan Town. Lushan Mountain, the fourth peak in Shandong Province, stands in the southeast, surrounded by rolling mountains. A tributary, Hezi River, yi river River, Fuxiaohe River and Wenhe River, gurgled out of the mountains in central Shandong and meandered north, west and south respectively.

Boshan area has a long history. It belonged to Ma Jing Town of Qi during the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, and was called "Lost Middle-earth". Qin is a county in northern Hebei. From the Western Han Dynasty to the Wei and Jin Dynasties, it belonged to Banyang County in Jin 'an County in the north, Laiwu County in Taishan County in the southeast, and Wansheng County in Taishan County in the Southern and Northern Dynasties. In the first year of Zhongxing in the Northern Wei Dynasty (AD 53 1), it was located in Banyang County, belonging to qi zhou, Qinghe County. In the second year of Tianbao in the Northern Qi Dynasty (AD 550), it was changed to Beiqiu County, and in the eighteenth year of Emperor Kai of Sui Dynasty (AD 598), it was returned to Zichuan County, Qijian County. In the early Tang Dynasty, the system was reformed and Zichuan County, Henan Road and Lizifu County, was established. Zhenguan's ownership remained basically unchanged from the Five Dynasties to the Song Dynasty. At this time, Shen Yan has become an important town in Shandong. The Jin Dynasty belonged to Zichuan County, Zizhou, Shandong East Road, and was named Shen Yan Store. From Yuan Dynasty to Yuan Dynasty (A.D. 1336), Shen Yan Town was located in Yidu Road, Yidu County. The Ming Dynasty belongs to Yidu County, Qingzhou Prefecture. In the 12th year of Yongzheng in Qing Dynasty (AD 1734), Boshan County was established for the first time. On the basis of the original Shen Yan Town, four villages, namely Fuxiao Township in Yidu County, Huaide Township, Dayu Village in Zichuan County and Letuan Village in Laiwu County, were merged and named Boshan County in the southeast of the city, with the county government located in Shen Yan.

When Shen Yan was in the Jin Dynasty, Jinling and Zhangdian, which were about a hundred miles away from the north, were called the three major towns of Zichuan. In the thirty-eighth year of Jiajing in Ming Dynasty (A.D. 1559), in March, the Shicheng project, founded by Wang Shizhen, the leader of literary circles in the late Ming Dynasty and then deputy commander of Qingzhou Junlu, started, and was completed three months later, and besieged the city for three weeks in a week. Wang Shizhen wrote The Story of Shicheng in Shen Yan, which was inscribed under the Story of Shicheng in Shen Yan together with the Story of Shicheng in written by Li Panlong, the head of the first seven scholars in Ming Dynasty. A small town named "Fiona Fang Sanli" was built, and two literary leaders wrote articles for it, which brought great glory to Shen Yan Town. In the early years of Tongzhi in Qing Dynasty, the city walls were built around the east, west and south of the old city, which was called Dongwei. At the same time, a wall is built around Tax Street and Xiye Street, which is called the West Wai. The area covered by the east and west banks constitutes the main part of Boshan City.

The name of Shen Yan Store is directly related to Fuxiaohe at the foot of Phoenix Mountain. Fu Xiaohe's earliest name was Shui Yuan, and later it was changed to Longshui, which was also recorded as cage water in ancient books. Li Daoyuan's Notes on Water Classics and Gu's Geography both recorded this river. As for the name of Fu Xiaohe, it comes from a long-standing myth and legend. It is said that Yan Wenjiang, the filial wife of Qi State, still respected her in-laws after her young death, served them well, and picked sweet water from afar, without being disturbed by the cold and hot weather. Finally moved to heaven, Lingquan was born in Yan Wenjiang's room. The vicious mother-in-law saw that she no longer carried water, but there was water every day, and she became suspicious. She found an excuse to send her daughter-in-law out of the house, went into Yan Wenjiang's room and removed the cage cover on Lingquan. The spring water gushed out and flowed into a filial river. This story has been circulated among the people for many years, and the plot is becoming more and more specific. Even Yan Wenjiang's native place and aunt's surname are available.
