The National Library of China, formerly known as Shi Jing Library, was established on September 9th. 1909. 193 1 year, Jinwen Street Building was completed (now the National Library Ancient Books Museum). After the founding of New China, it was renamed Beijing Library. The new library was built in 1987. In February 1998, it was approved by the State Council and renamed as the National Library of China.
At present, the National Library has three buildings, namely, the south area of Baishiqiao General Library, the north area of General Library and Jinwen Street Ancient Books Museum. There are 46 reading rooms with their own characteristics, including 23 open-shelf reading rooms, including daily newspapers, ancient books, audio-visual and children's books.
