There is a street called Liu Yang Street in the old city of Chongqing. There is a wonderful legend about the origin of Liu Yang Street.
According to legend, in the seventeenth year of Chongzhen (A.D. 1644), Zhang led hundreds of thousands of rebel troops into Sichuan, and in June, they almost reached Chongqing. On the way, I saw an escaped woman with a two-or three-year-old doll in her hand and a five-or six-year-old doll on her back. Zhang felt strange, so he stopped the woman and asked her, "Why are you carrying a five-or six-year-old doll and asking a two-or three-year-old doll to walk?"
The woman who ran away replied, "Sir, this little doll is my own, and this big doll was born to my dead ex-wife." . I am the stepmother of the big doll. The big doll's mother died, and the doll suffered a lot! I should take better care of him. "
Hearing this, Zhang pointed to the runaway woman and asked the two dolls, "Which one of you is her mother?"
A little doll said, "She is my own mother."
One of the older dolls said, "She is my stepmother, but better than my own mother!" " "
Zhang was very moved and said to the woman, "You don't have to run away, just go home!" "
The woman said, "I heard that Zhang Zhongxian killed everyone, and we were all frightened!" "
Zhang said, "Don't be afraid, those words are rumors. Zhang only kills corrupt officials and won't harm you people. " . After that, he conveniently folded a willow to the woman and said, "Take this willow back and plug it in the door, and I will keep your family safe." Subsequently, Zhang gave an order:
"After entering Chongqing, only corrupt officials are allowed to be killed, and people are not allowed to be harassed, and people who are weeping willows at the door are not allowed."
After listening to Zhang's words, the refugee woman came home and left the willow tree that Zhang gave her at the door. When the neighbors saw it, they asked her why she put Yang Liuzhi at the door. She told the whole story. So, the neighbors put Yang Liuzhi at the door. After Zhang Bing entered the city, the weeping willows were safe at home, and there was no military disaster. Since then, the street with Yang Liuzhi in front of the house has been renamed Liu Yang Street. For a long time, every June, every household in this street inserted Yang Liuzhi at the gate.
