exhaustion of qi [Xiangya Medical Professional Dictionary] 3 Notes
Gas consumption is the cause of the disease [1]. It refers to the depletion of healthy qi caused by overwork, and is one of the nine pathogenesis of qi disorders in the "Nei Jing" [1]. "Huangdi Nei Jing Su Wen·Ju Pain Lun": "When you are overworked, you will pant and sweat, and your energy will be exhausted both externally and internally." "Lei Jing" notes: "Excessive fatigue will cause the Yang Qi to move towards the Yin component, so it will run upward. It manifests as wheezing in the lungs and manifests as sweating when the Yang moves, so the Qi is exhausted internally and externally. "It is often caused by overexertion. Clinically, shortness of breath and fatigue, tiredness of the limbs, frequent wheezing and sweating are seen. Then spontaneous sweating, nocturnal emission, etc. [1]. Treatment should be based on the principle of "warming the patient who is tired", using Sijunzi Decoction, Buzhong Yiqi Decoction, etc. to warm Yang and replenish Qi [1].
See Nine Qi: Nine Qi refers to the nine pathogenic factors that cause Qi disorders [2]. "Huangdi Nei Jing Su Wen·Ju Pain Lun": "All diseases are caused by Qi. Anger causes Qi to rise, happiness causes Qi to slow down, sadness causes Qi to disappear, fear causes Qi to lower, cold causes Qi to shrink, and heat causes Qi to deflate, and panic. If the Qi is disordered, the Qi will be depleted by exertion, and the Qi will be blocked by thinking. If the nine Qi are different, why does the disease occur? "Among them, Jiong refers to heat and fatigue, and fatigue refers to overwork [2]. Nine Qi focuses on the pathogenesis of Qi disorder caused by the excess of seven emotions [2].
