How many meridians does the human body have?

Huangdi Neijing, the earliest medical classic in China, records that the human body has 14 meridians, which dominate the whole body's qi and blood circulation and regulate the information feedback system of life activities, and has the function of "deciding life and treating all diseases". Wang, a doctor in the Song Dynasty, also portrayed 14 meridian lines described in Huangdi Neijing on bronze models, which became the first model of acupuncture and moxibustion meridian teaching, scientific research and clinical treatment in the world. For many years, Chinese medicine has been using the meridian system of the human body to treat patients through acupuncture and other means. China's peculiar medical method has attracted the attention of the world medical community.

But because the meridians cannot be separated from the human body, they are invisible and intangible. So whether there are meridians or not, there are different opinions.

Zhu Zongxiang, a professor at the Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and others have verified that the human body has 14 meridian lines by three biophysical methods after nearly 20 years of research. According to the characteristics of high vibration sound and low impedance of meridian lines, scientists have used pulse and mechanical tapping, electrode testing, small hammer tapping and stethoscope monitoring to measure meridian lines. They found that the meridian line of human body is only 1mm wide. From fetus to adult, the width and position of meridian are relatively stable and remain unchanged for life.

Experts pointed out that the confirmation of meridian theory not only means arming China's traditional medical system with modern science, but also means that our understanding of life itself and human potential has undergone fundamental changes.

The mystery of the existence of meridians has been solved, but how did people in ancient China discover meridians? This is still an eternal mystery.
