This book makes extensive use of the old and new Tang Shu, the old and new History of the Five Dynasties, the History of the Song Dynasty, Zi Zhi Tong Jian and other books, and also quotes nearly 1 kinds of ancient books, such as Records of Nine Kingdoms, Spring and Autumn Annals of Ten Kingdoms, Stories of Five Kingdoms and Guangdong Local Records, with rich historical sources. Liang Tingjun carefully identified the historical materials of the Southern Han Dynasty recorded by predecessors, saying, "If things are the same, they should adopt their antiquity, and if things are different, they should adopt their details; if there is something that cannot be generalized, it should be cited, so as to be sure." Therefore, the historical events contained are more detailed and accurate, which can correct the omissions and fallacies of the history. Its historical value is higher than the Spring and Autumn Annals of the Southern Han Dynasty and the Annals of the Southern Han Dynasty written by Wu Lanxiu in the Qing Dynasty (the book was written a little later than the Book of the Southern Han Dynasty and only recorded the events of the five masters of the Southern Han Dynasty).
